Existential Therapy
What is the aim or the purpose of existential therapy? Does existential therapy helps us Filipinos to develop our self-esteem, self confidence and self-awareness or care to others? Why did I choose existential therapy among other therapy? According to Professor Lintag`s handout, the aim of existential therapy encourage clients to reflect on life, for them to recognize their range of alternatives and to decide among them. We Filipinos sometimes forget to reflect on what we had for this day, or in what we have done in our lives. I may say that existential therapy really helps us Filipinos to develop our self-esteem, confidence and awareness. Why? Because in existential therapy we tend to know the capacity of our self-awareness, with that we`ll be inclined to reflect and make choices in our lives, because we know now the capacity of self-awareness. Now that we know our capacity of self-awareness, we now strive for identity and to the relationship of others. I know each of us wants to know a lot and to discover our self more that we know. We also want to discover our relationship to others, because we often depend on relationships to them. What I mean is that we often ask others opinion for us, for our looks, clothes that we are about to wear, good and nice places and many more. I choose this therapy because I can relate myself to it. I can relate because we humans has the right and freedom to choose what we really wanted to do or to be, or who we wanted to be with. Existential therapy may help a lot of people or human beings, because all we need is to understand each of us and to take risk and responsibility for us to become more a better
