A main concept of Existentialism would include the statement that the essence of man is existence. What was meant by the aforementioned idea is for humans to see the point that they should consider is that they are humans; and that they are also contemplated as conscious beings that act independently and thus having the ability to determine a meaning to their life.
Further delving into the thought could be explained in defining essence as whatever we assign to ourselves then existence as the first thing that we are would conclude that we basically have to exist prior to the assignation of attributes to ourselves or other people.
As people we are trying to stave off the pain of being; searching is a way to counter this nothingness. So, by embracing existence we are no longer nothing. It is the core of existentialism, it is all we have, really.
