Experience Is the Greatest Teacher
Where do you go when you want to learn something? School? A friend? These are all traditional way of learning. But it may well be that the learning you really want doesn't lie there but somewhere else instead. "EXPERIENCE IS THE GREATEST TEACHER”, an old saying that I suggest that they would benefit more from learning than education in school. Life is a series of experiences. Some of the most simple and important lessons of all can only be learned through the hard knocks of experience. I think we need to learn from our mistakes and also from our past. We cannot escape experience. Experience has taught me that I can become anything or anyone I want to be. We actually have to do the things and learn from it. Not always as easy as it sounds and sometimes it is painfully. There are things I couldn't learn from someone else so I had to get in and experience them for myself. Get my hands dirty, as it were. My lessons may not be any different than what I would have gotten in school... but they are certainly more personal and meaningful, because I've had to work them out on my own. It is very easy to become comfortable and let myself relax rather than being stress of new things. All these are nice in a way, but they won't teach me very much. I don't want that to happen. So it is important for me that I continue to stretch and grow by pursuing new experiences.

To be sure, no lesson provides an authenticity and durability as that gained through first-hand experience. However, if the world's destiny hinged upon the inevitability of personal experience learned through tangible performance, there would undoubtedly be a continuous recycling of mistakes, misadventures, and catastrophes throughout history. As a result, societal advancement would be limited to the knowledge gained and exercised in a lifetime. Imagine every generation being left to repeat essentially the same process in a perpetual state of affairs. In the 1993 movie Groundhog Day, the protagonist (Bill Murray) had to repeat the same day over again, scores of times, in order to gain enough information to break out of an inexplicable cycle…

Many learning techniques are nails being pounded into our brains in school daily: classroom-based learning, overemphasized homework, and mundane lectures. These tedious methods are outdated and simply do not effectively teach students. Being the son of an experienced educator, I am slightly pressured into believing these ideas are the correct way to learn. I learned many facts and observations without having to sit at a desk, without having homework, and without having to listen to a boring lecture. I learned that it can be beneficial to learn in a hands-on and practical fashion rather than a typical style of learning used in schools. I would have gone home from school that day the same person I was when I arrived. Without practical experience, information is useless in affecting me.…

“Life can only be understood backwards; but it must be lived forwards” (Kierkegaard). In the great debate of “Knowledge vs Experience”, each side of the story has its pros and cons when applied to the real world. Where knowledge allows its user to recall vast amounts of information about any learned subject, it fails to be able to apply that information quickly in the real world. Conversely, with experience, there is generally a lack of information from the get-go, however the lessons learned from actually experiencing a situation can be applied to further real life situations, and so forth. If I had to choose between living with solely knowledge or experience, personally I would have to pick experience over knowledge, due to its ability to have its lessons applied to later situations in the real world.…

Some of the things I learned were how to balance a checkbook, how to run a business, and how to budget my time and finances. Along with those real life skills a learned some metaphoric skills as well. I learned that you can’t just plant a seed and it will grow. To start with, you have to have a good foundation, which is the right type of soil. This all applies to life; you have to start with a good foundation if you want to succeed in life.…

Ones parents and teachers usually try to teach one something one doesn’t want to know. One should listen next time for it might an important lesson. Like ones parents or teachers, the adults in the novel To Kill A Mockingbird try to teach Scout/one that may be important. One lesson learned is to face ones problems. Another is to respect everyone no matter how they differ. A lesson taught is to stand up for what one believes in. Therefore, lessons learned from childhood experiences help children make more mature decisions later.…

I have also learned that education is the key to life because what you do now will affect how you live your life down the road. If you apply yourself , put your mind to it and do what is right and be respectful it will take you a long way in life. Having a free education is a blessing and you shouldn't take advantage of it, meaning you shouldn’t slack off because you are not necessarily losing money at the moment . Some people don't have the opportunity to have a free education and plan their life out completely sometimes "when life give you lemons make lemonade". When life isn't looking so great don't give up just make the best out of what you have. Being in Roanoke Valley Early College has made me apply myself more and really open my eyes more to see bigger and better things and don't settle for less just because things may be hard or seems as if everyone else aren’t handling their business. Th has also learned me in my life to recognize the things that are really a priority in my life and don't focus on things that are aren't…

Life is a series of lessons and challenges which help us to grow. According to Erik Erickson, the better that people come through each crisis, the better they will tend to deal with what lies ahead. People experience the most lessons during their childhood when they are just learning of how the world operates. Children and young adults handle situations very differently because their thought processes are different depending on their experiences. Of course lessons can be revisited successfully when they reoccur as adults, if they are recognized as a problem.…

This is trivial that we need to make our mistakes, and this is also so true that life first examines us and then teaches us from our victories and failures, but if we are wise enough we might know that people’s experiences and failures could count as lessons! We also learned that nothing comes to us without the elbow grease, and thank God for that! What comes fast and easily, goes even faster! My educational experience has my perspective of life and the way I relate to people. I have learnt how to interact well with people, despite of their race, religion and beliefs. My learning experience has taught me to behave with integrity and honor, be just and not to be first at judging people, virtues that I did not have before. My educational experience has equipped me with decision making and conflict resolution skills. I have come to understand that people have different interpretation of ethical behavior and in case a conflict arises on any matter, wisdom is what guides me in solving it. I understand that people have different characters and therefore I do not expect all people to behave the same way. I have learnt to show compassion to everyone by helping them acquire the necessary moral…

Learning is something that we all do each and every day. It is important to be aware of the type of learning that suits you the best so that you can retain the most information possible. Learning and education have always been a big piece of becoming an adult. As a child you must go to school full time and make decent grades in order to finish school. Learning hasn’t always been what it is now. Education used to be hours of lecture with a test at the end, whereas now education has so many different approaches such as presentations, group assignments, visual context and even games. All of these different approaches have come about…

No one can learn everything and much less by them self. When you are searching for knowledge you are getting facts and truths for yourself, there have been people who have the time to develop their own 'thing', who became an expert, just as you will have developed your own 'thing'. We all have freedom of thought, for the most part, and that allows us to gain and exchange knowledge with other people, from those who have developed opinions, in order to gain even more knowledge, so that we may form our own opinion. Your time and energy can be focused on your next step in your plan by heeding advice and opinion from others and by not having to do all the research alone.…
