Experiments
In this individual project we were asked to conduct three experiments. The three experiments I chose to conduct were Experiment 1, Experiment 2, and Experiment 4. I have documented my findings for the experiments that were done. In Experiment 1, I was to rub my index finger gently over a piece of very coarse sandpaper for a few times. Then, I was to rate its coarseness on a scale from 1 (very soft) to 7 (very coarse). The first time I rubbed my finger over the sandpaper, it felt rough. I would give it a 7(very coarse). The roughness that it had, gave my body a jolt. I felt like it was uncomfortable to the touch. My brain had transmitted my reaction when I touched the object. In this experiment the reaction called different threshold, which is the difference between two stimuli.( Words of Wisdom, 2013 ) There were changes in the way my finger felt once I placed it on the sandpaper. When I first touched the sandpaper it felt rough and odd to me. The sandpaper registered in my brain as a rough surface and prickly to the touch but when I touched it a second time the rough sensation did not seem as rough any longer. This is when the adaptation had taken place. The brain received to signal from the neurons and the stimuli was the sandpaper. The signal translated that the paper was rough to the touch and when touching it again it had adapted to the surface of the sandpaper. The process helps us to understand the sensory adaptation that occurred. The sensory adaptation is defined as the process of senses becoming less responsive to physical stimuli. (Words of Wisdom, 2013) The finger was exposed to sandpaper the reaction of the sandpaper created a sensation in the finger that triggered senses of touch. The second time I touched the sandpaper with the same finger, I noticed that it did not bother me as much. I would give it a 3 (some -what soft) on the scale of
