Those subjects are essential, in daily life, and the lack of offers that secondary school provides doesn't enable them to grow as citizens. The lack of choice doesn't allow the students to have a role in their education, and it has, and will have an effect in social, economical, and political terms.

Secondary school is a step that students have to take before going to university. It is a changing moment, and it contributes to a self-construction of the student, as well as it provides him enough information to be able to decide, according to his expectations and ambitions, what he might want to do, in his life. Also, it allows the students to have common knowledge of daily-life requirements, being them economical, political, ecological issues, and to build themselves as citizens. By not providing the opportunity for the students to decide which courses they want to take, and by not broadening the core curriculum subjects, the portuguese educational system lacks coherence, and lacks a heterogenic view of its students' needs, interests, and
