An analysis of how national and local guidelines, policies and procedures for safeguarding, affect day to day work with children and young people including but not limited to:

Childcare practice: Childcare practice can include Nurseries, pre-school, primary and secondary school, childminders and children’s homes. If you are someone who works with children, you are obliged to hold a relevant childcare qualification. You also usually need to have 2 references and a DBS. (disclosure and barring service) check will also be done prior to you commencing work. Any parent volunteers must also be DBS checked to be able to come into school. Those who are not, need to be collected from the school office and then accompanied back there when they leave. If you are a childminder you need to be registered with OFSTED, this is also true if you run a nursery or pre-school or for any primary or secondary schools. As stated in the Children’s Act 2006, any setting providing care for children from birth to 5 years, must be registered with Ofsted on the Early Years Register and follow the EYFS framework. Appreciating the views and feelings of the young person helps them feel involved and can in turn help everyone make better decisions. Working like this is good practice but also a legal requirement. The Children Act says young people must be treated with respect and this means that young people must be listened to (amongst other things). If a local authority is deciding what should happen to a child or young person, they have to find out what they would like to happen and how they feel about any decisions made about them.
