My role as a nursery teacher at Zeeba Daycare can have a very big impact on the development of children in my classroom. It is well known that children often observe what others do and many times will imitate actions they have observed, so it is very important that I set a good example and be a good role model as I could set a good foundation for the development of a child’s behaviour and morals. It is important to teach children that all people are important and valuable, no matter what their gender, race, ability or background is and that it is important to respect and support others that are different to us. Therefore I can affect their development in many good ways by giving them a good example to follow.
It is very essential that any person working with children and young people has an absolute duty to safeguard and protect children/young people from harm at all times, even if this means breaking confidences by sharing information in order to protect a child and dealing with the very difficult situations that can arise. It is very important to know and understand the policies and procedures that are in place to ensure that you know who to report to if there is early intervention required or a serious case should arise and the different procedures to follow. Working with children/young people I need to be confident and competent in providing all necessary aspects of care at all times. This gives confidence to the child/young person and their parents.
I have to make sure that my behaviour, relationships with children/parents/staff, language as well as materials, resources and activities are appropriate for the children in our classroom. Using inappropriate resources for a child’s age and activities that are not suited for them might discourage a child or potentially harm that child (physically or mentally) as they grow and affect their development in a negative way.
