in part of football does it engage with globalisation. This essay will focus on why globalisation makes football change. The essay demonstrates how globalisation is related to football. Moreover globalisation is not the best thing for everybody around the world. Some people against with it. This essay also discusses about why football is not the highest globalisation and who is anti it and how people anti it.
As people understand that globalisation is process that makes products, people, companies, money and information are able to move around the world. (Morison, J) Football industry is one part of globalisation because football industry also free to move player around the world or move to countries where is under trade agreement like normal labor markets. Actually it is not only players can move but also coaches, staff coaches can move too. Football clubs are one kind of businesses because they can make a lot of profit by selling souvenirs such as sport kits, scarfs, and sport wears. But not only souvenirs they also sell tickets to watch football matches and sell ticket for stadium tour. Moreover, almost all football clubs in Europe league changed to be public corporations which stocks are traded in exchange market. (Abcoptions.com) Football clubs can make more profit than people think. Another part that involves with football industry and gets a huge profit as well is television satellite. First of all, this essay would like to demonstrate on football player labour market. It is one of important thing and easily to understand that how and why globalisation impacts with football industry. Because as from after world war two each countries form a group of economic to help each other better under trade agreement. For example in EU that after the war ended France and Germany signed the contract to will not against again and help economy each other after that many countries in Europe joined as well. Each trade agreements have several rules but the major one is free to move labor and products across countries. It makes sport industry not only in football but in Basketball, Volleyball, Tennis also has foreign players play in each league around the world. After 1995s football league in Europe looks more globalisation because one of football player who name is Jean-Marc Bosman complained to Europe court about justice of the limitation of number of foreign players in football clubs to two to three person per a football club. Bosman argued and won which means football clubs within European Union has freedom of movement players. Nowadays many the greatest football clubs in Europe such as Inter Milan does not have own nation players in the team. (Milanovic, B) Not only in Europe league has freedom of movement players but also in Asian league. Almost all the biggest football clubs in Thailand have foreign players from many countries such as Muangthong United bought foreign players from Japan and Korea which the countries are in Asia. Moreover they also bought players from across continent like from Brazil, Portugal, and Belgium.
Secondly, football industry can make a huge profit from investment in each part of football clubs such as sponsorship from foreign companies and trading in exchange market. After the football clubs have been become more popular around the world. Many companies such as sport wear brands, insurance companies, drink companies, and electric companies interested in investing in football clubs by be sponsorship. Many people curious how companies get profits from football clubs and why it involves with globalisation. This part will show how companies get profits and how is involve with globalisation. Many big football clubs in European league have big sponsors to support them even in sport wear, transportation, stadium, etc. It is another way to promote their products. One of interesting thing is almost all sponsors do not come from countries where is football clubs located. It shows how globalisation has impacted on football industry. Business companies think football clubs can build their new customers and also build loyalty customers as well which many customers come from supporters in each team. Moreover, supporters in each team are not only in Europe they come from many countries around the world. It is one strategy to expand their market share around the world from leading football clubs. For example, in early 2000s Siemens who is a leading electric company invested around US$12 million for the shirt sponsorship of Real Madrid, during that time the company's market share around the world rose from 17 percent to 21 percent. (Giulianotti, R and Robertson, R) American car company Chevrolet signed £53 million a year shirt sponsorship with Manchester United a football club in England. (totalsportek2, 2017)
After some football clubs change to be public corporations, many people even supporters, investors, or normal people can invest in them.
After football industry has become more popular, it has attracted investors in exchange market around the world trading and be a stakeholder of them. Moreover, in some business men who has a huge capital can take over a football club as well even they are not local people. They may come from the opposite part of the world. For example, football club in England name Southampton was took over by Chinese businessman and family on 2017. He has agreed a deal to buy 80 percent of Southampton. The clearest point that how football industry look high globalisation is nowadays business men in China have invested in many football clubs in England such as Aston Villa, Birmingham, Wolves, Reading and West Brom. Not only in England that Chinese investors invested but also in Italy too. They just have brought AC Milan a football club in Italy for £628 in the beginning of this year. (BBC
sport,2017)
Globalisation becomes more essential for the world but it still stagnant or low in football industry. Not every football associations in the world support globalisation in football industry. And not everybody support globalisation too. In each football industries around the world they have regulations to protect their homegrown players and players in their economic group. Thailand football association have quota for foreign players. They allow just three foreigners per team. Moreover, before football players have to move to play in another league they have to meet requirements from foreign affairs in that country. It is one thing that interrupts moving labor. In recently year one of players from Asenal was rejected on Visa to work in United Kingdom because he didn't meet the requirement that he had to played in senior competitive in his home country at least seventy five percent. (Iassevices.org.uk, nd)
However, some people or some organisations try to anti-globalisation but it is more difficult to do that because nowadays people can access each other easily and technology has developed. It makes people can exchange almost everything easier. Even Thailand football league they have a limitation of foreigners but nowadays they have become a part of ASEAN economic. Thailand football association try to give more opportunities for players from ASEAN by allowing more foreigners from three to five. Five foreign players consist of three from others countries, one from Asia and another one from ASEAN. (Ooi Kin Fai, nd) It is belong to free trade agreement in ASEAN.
Everything happened even in the past or it is still happening can show what people live in what era. People can notice not only in business part that has changed by globalisation but in the sport industry as well. People can see that how sport industry was changed and developed by globalisation. In football industry has many things was developed and many football associations around the world try to adapt themselves to stay in this era like exchange their players between each league around the world or foreign businessman invest in football clubs. Even though in some countries they try to resist by have a regulation to limit foreign players but finally they cannot bear with their resistance. They have to adapt themselves with globalisation. It means people cannot deny that they are live in high globalisation era and they cannot anti globalisation for long time.
