Explain How To Promote Effective Communication
A positive relationship is a relationship that benefits children or young people to participate in and benefit from the setting. Effective communication is the key aspect of building a relationship between children, young people or adults. Body language, tone of voice and eye contact can tell us a lot about a person and also helps us determine how we are going to respond appropriately.
Within the classroom we need to communicate effectively as we will come across a lot of different people with different personalities. To communicate effectively with someone you need to be on the same or similar level to them. Active listening in this situation would be ideal as it focuses on what the person or child is saying and responding to key points with appropriate responses to show that you understand them.
Effective communication and a positive relationship does not just happen instantly, you need to think about the way you relate to other people and the message this gives out, particularly during parent – teacher communication. A good model to use is the LAFF donâ€TMt CRY method which is used to gather information whilst showing willingness to understand the parent/carer point of view. The acronyms stand for L – listen, empathise and communicate respect, A – ask questions, F – focus on issue, F – find a first step and DONâ€TMT: C – criticise those who are not present, R – react hastily a make unreasonable promises, Y – yak, this means talking off

    I have worked with my current employer for six months. I work with clients with a learning disability, within a supported housing setting. My current job role is as a ‘care assistant’.
