Explain How You Have Changed Regarding Your Role In Health Policy

Summarize how you have changed regarding your role in health policy. What will you do differently to address legislative issues or policy concerns?
Prior to completing the course Health Policies, Politics and Practices, I was unsure what my role could and would be in health policy. Although I understood that healthcare professionals play an integral role in health policy, the process overwhelmed and frightened me. However, following our frequent analyses of varying health policies and review of policy development procedures, the decision making processes which influences policy as well as the ethical and financial considerations driving politics and policies, I have become impassioned to play a critical role. Involvement in policy and politics seems much less daunting,
I have also joined a local board, which will serve as a gateway for involvement. I hope to use the skills and knowledge I have gained through my education and practice to improve legislation and therefore enhance health as well as wellness. What do you perceive, as the biggest challenges health care providers will confront in the near future?
There are numerous challenges we, as healthcare providers, face and are going to face in the near future. After careful review of the literature throughout this course, I believe that combating health disparities and the inevitable practice of rationing of care may be the greatest challenge of all due to the economic climate of healthcare in the United States. Although it will not be easy, in order to effectively combat rising costs of care and subsequent limited access, I believe access to public health services must be expanded.
