Explain The Arguments Against The Theory Of Plate Tectonics
Seafloor spreading is the most widely accepted piece of evidence for plate tectonics.
It is the patterns on the rocks which presented a problem with the theory. There was thought to be a problem with the description of the movement being “slow and gradual”. According to scientists and geologists the movement would have been performed at a rapid speed. A physicist then predicted where the evidence for this rapid movement could be found and it was later proved that the argument against the theory was correct.

One of the major reasons and usually the most common reason for resistance is lack of evidence presented within the theory For example Wegener’s theory of Tectonic Plates was in fact presented with some evidence, how ever there was no mechanism to prove these observations and gathered evidence had any truth to them. This resulted in resistance to the theory as it had minimum validity and little credibility.
Alternative theories will also provoke resistance to develop, this is likely to happen as it is very possible that more than one person is working on a similar theory. An example would be Darwin’s theory of evolution which did seem to be a relatively strong theory, on the other hand there was an opposing theory which was Lamarck's theory of evolution. Lamarck had conveyed that a giraffe would need to stretch their neck to reach food which is high up, this would be a continuous activity for the giraffe which would cause the giraffes necks to become longer over time. The giraffes offspring would then inherit it’s long neck. Darwin was soon to invalidate this theory by stating that a giraffe with a longer neck would be able to reach the food which is high up. Again, global warming can be an example of this. Humans are contributing to global warming by specific activities which we carry out from day to day which releases CO2 into the atmosphere. Many people will fear the outcomes of global warming as the climate change can lead to restrictions on particular crops and also sea levels rising causing flooding. People are most likely to be in denial that they as an individual are contributing to global warming some how. They will not want to believe that they are doing anything wrong and they could tell themselves that they are never going to see the dramatic effects of this
