The purpose of this assessment is to:
Explore ‘How a business uses information’; to research and find real life scenarios in information uses and to contextualise your answers giving an element of application to your submission.
Task 1: Interim w/b 10th March 2014 Final w/b 31st March 2014
Tasks
1. Explain in a report how organisations use information. Remember to work through in a logical sequence; what is information? (types, sources, characteristics). Where is information used? (Functional areas: sales, purchasing, manufacturing, marketing, finance, personnel, administration). Purposes of information. How information flows? (example of an information diagram with written explanation….include at least 3 internal and 2 external functional areas) Please note a clear, detailed, comprehensive information flow diagram is also needed.
2. Discuss the characteristics of good information. Include what you believe the characteristics are; (valid, reliable, fit-for-purpose, etc.)
3. Add a section to your report that explains the issues related to the use of information.
For this section include the relevant legal issues, ethical issues and operational issues.
4. Add a section to your report that assesses how issues related to the use of information affect an organisation. Use at least one example from each of: legal issues, ethical issues and operational issues.
5. To demonstrate your understanding of business information; explain how an organisation of your choice could improve the quality of its business information.
