Have a policy about the administration of medicines
Keep a written record to show what and when medicines have been given to children (which is shared with parents)
Ensure that written permission from parents is obtained for each and every medicine prior to it being administered.
Most settings will also do the following:
Find out from parents what the medicine is for, when it should be taken and in what circumstances.
Check that the medicines are in date before they are administered and follow the instructions given.
Store medicines according to the instructions
