This theory states that rather than working together, the parts of society compete with one another due to scarce resources in our society. These societies are based on power. There are higher and lower stances in conflict theory, like classes. They are based off wealth, power, and rights. For example, maids are considered to be in a lower class and their employers are in higher classes. Since they are getting paid and earning very little money they are seen as lower than their employers who are part of the wealthy class. Another example is “machismo” in families. The males are presumed to be better, stronger, smarter, and faster than females and they take on all the “hard” roles in the family like working, doing yard work, hunting, and fishing.
