Explain What Characteristics Do You Posses That Would Serve You Well As A Camp Counselor
1. What characteristics do you posses that would serve you well as a camp counselor?

I believe I hold the characteristics of a terrific leader, someone who is always focused on what she is doing, someone who has integrity and is inspirational. I also completed leadership training and hold a certificate of leadership. I am overly patient and always positive.

2. What would the ideal experience of camp be?

To me, the ideal camp experience would be for these girls not only have a fun time and build a bond as sisters in Islam but to also build a stronger bond with Allah SWT. At the end of the day, that is the biggest goal we have at Girls Youth and to have five days with them, I want to help them accomplish that. I want them to come out with an experience that will last them a lifetime.

3. What ideas/suggestions can you contribute to this girl's youth camp?

At every year's camp we do a campfire every night, maybe before we begin each camp fire we do a dua session. In that dua session, we can have duas from the girls that they can write on a paper and leave in a jar in the prayer room.

4. Have you ever been to our annual girl's youth camp before? As a counselor or camper if yes, when

I have had the opportunity to provide programs to girls that come from all over. Whether it’s with ICPC Girls Youth, Young Muslims Sisters, as a Volunteers coordinator, an intern at a correction office or Black Belt Instructor, or a teacher, I have been so honored to deal with youth girls from all different backgrounds, ages, and cultures. Whether they are a Muslim, Christian, or Jewish teen, I was given the opportunity to educate, boost, and help girls get on their feet, no matter what happens in their lives. I am so blessed that Allah SWT has given me these opportunities and I’d liked to give back to my community and assist in any way

I walked with my chin held high, I began straying away from the group of associates that did not benefit me emotionally or academically. I saw a change within the first week and so did everyone around me. But of course, a short retreat can only have a short-term result. Miss Nadia strongly believed that a 3 day retreat isn’t enough to provoke young girls to become advocates for their community, so she made sure that we had to attend mandatory events throughout the year in order to keep an active status in the program. It was only a matter of time before I was back to my old ways. We were required to volunteer at program events during the year to help other girls. It was nostalgic seeing these girls in my shoes, I was eager to see them progress, as I…

Serving the community is a very important thing to me, not just within the school community, but also into the Kenyan community. Beginning from my childhood, anytime I would go upcountry, I would always carry a bag of sweets to give to the impoverished children I would find, or carry my keyboard along with me to play the children songs in Church. I believe that I have nurtured these simple acts of service into my spending of several weeks this past few summers volunteering at the Nest, which is an orphanage for young children. Growing up, my parents have taught me the value of giving, that because I am privileged, I should always give back to society. My times at the Nest continue to teach me how reaching out to others although it might be hard to relate, is so rewarding.…

However, according to Sally Brown, volunteering brings these groups together and unites communities through bonding and “mutual understanding” (qtd. in Dykhuis 16). In fact, Pappas states that many youth volunteers get started in service work through church or school. Consequently, these closely knit programs encourage friendship and address areas of each community’s concern (Dykhuis 16). This allows communities to come together through a similar cause whether that be “illiteracy, teen pregnancy, high crime rates, or drug abuse” (Spiegel and Safrit 14). Due to the different opportunities for community service, volunteers are able to understand the barriers between affluent and limited resource areas and use their knowledge of these barriers for further personal and communal…

I show many qualities of leadership. As a patrol you are suppose to be a role model for kids. Be their leader and guide then from right to wrong. I was also a main player for my soccer team. If the captain were not there I would step up to the plate and guide our team to victory during games and keep everyone motivated and in line during practices. In school when there are group project I try my best to keep my friends in line and focused. I don’t take full control and we all chip in and complete the assignment.
