Explain What My Pin Means To Me
“What My Pin Means to Me”

As a sophomore at Mercy high school I’ve come to know many things. When you start high school you have no idea that the things you’ll learn, the decisions you’ll make and the people you meet will affect the rest of your life, but that’s what it’s about. It’s about learning and growing so that when you leave high school and you graduate you will have the skills to go to college and become a part of something. What you don’t realize is that while you spend your four years in high school, you become a part of something as well. That’s what receiving my pin on this day means to me. It’s knowing that while I’m here, when I graduate and for the many years after that, I will always be apart of something. I will be a part

This was significant to me because I had dropped out of high school for awhile and was far behind. All my hard work to catch up paid off, because a year in a half after the class of 07’ walked I graduated and I got to make a speech in front of my peers and family, as well as Mayor Bob Walkup of Tucson.…

I know I’m very excited about it. As I’m getting my cap ready, decorating it and making plans with my friends; I’m reminded by my grandfather who, the day after his graduation, went to Vietnam, that not everyone gets this celebration. He didn’t get a graduation party; he didn’t get a bonfire with his friends. He walked off his graduation stage onto a plane headed for war. And how lucky are we that he did. That he and 2.5 million others did. These people didn’t get parties. They instead got flying bullets and little support from home. So please, in this time of joy for those of you graduating or celebrating a family member or friend’s graduation, do not forget of the Americans who, instead of celebrating, died on the battlefield. And instead of celebrating today as a day to barbeque and drink, remember that today, is a day of…

The components of citizenship, community service, academics, work and home life, and extracurricular actives help me shine as a well-rounded individual. As an involved and caring citizen in the Union Township community, I do my best to make my mark. Displaying a good role as a citizen through community service has been a value I possessed ever since I could remember. At a young age, I started to serve my community with my parents at both school and church events and it has stuck with me since. Through community service such as being an assistant teacher in St. Veronica’s Religious Education Program, Glen Este High School’s member of National Honors Society, and Key Club, I not only helped out Union Township but I have also made new relationships and feel good about myself. Community service always makes me feel better because I know I’m helping others and making my mark through the friends I have made through both of these service programs.…

The diploma also displays what year I will graduate in. This shows what class I have been a part of through my entire life. I have been a part of this class since Kindergarten. This group is like my second family. We grew up together playing sports, fishing, swimming, and even vacationing together. I remember being a young child in school and the thought of being one of the “big kids” was so scary. My friends and I never looked forward to middle school; high school had not even crossed our young minds yet. As we grew together, mentally and physically, high school could not come faster. We anxiously awaited our turn as the “top dogs” in middle school just to become the immature and annoying freshman in high school. After years upon years of waiting to become the scary seniors we were finally just that. The senior class has grown together and now we all anxiously await graduation together. We are a family and as a family we will all graduate together. The diploma symbolizes our senior class taking the first step towards our future. The senior class began as a group of small children that grew into a group of educated, young…

Then I went to J.F.K. middle school for two years. And then I went to Enrico Fermi high school. I will always remember my high school years fondly. I had a lot of fun and I worked really hard in terms of work and studying. It feels like yesterday that I graduated high school. In reality, it’s been 2.5 months since I graduated. I was apart of Fermis last graduating class before the high schools were consolidated. This made me feel a sense of ownership and pride. I was apart of my school's history of the final class to graduate from it. I feel like I will forever be apart of my school and my school will forever be apart of me. I asked my dad how he remembers the day that I graduated. And he said that I said, “I can’t believe this day finally came.” (Sternal, Joseph.)I still feel like I should be walking into that school again. I can’t believe I’m walking into a school that isn’t Fermi even today. I’m very happy that I got to be apart of the last graduating class because it made my high school experience that much more memorable and…

There is not a single feeling greater than the one you experience when you make a positive impact on someone else’s life. Thankfully, I was able to experience that in my junior year. My high school has a program called Link Crew that is designed to help alleviate the anxiety of freshmen’s transition in to high school. When I signed up to get involved, I never realized how strongly it would affect not only my life, but also the life of everyone else who came in contact with it one way or another. Junior year was my first year involved in the program. At first, I was not sure if I would be able to handle it because it was a club that required a large time commitment. I was already involved in my advisory board, student council, and also I had been on the varsity softball team for both years prior to my junior year, along with working anywhere from three to five days a week. It was a very busy time in my life for a while, but I soon came to realize that Link Crew was completely worth it once I started seeing the effect it had on my school.…

There are several goals I have set for myself in college; I aspire to make the dean's-list in all the years I attend college, I anticipate participating in a minimum of two organizations which can get me more absorbed in the community, and finally, I want to become involved with the student body, and attend as many school sponsored events as I can. In my junior year, when I heard I made the honor roll at my high school, I was overcome with a feeling of fulfillment. This was the first time I had made the honor roll and with this achievement was a feeling of pride for the work I put in, and for the way the work reflected in my grades. But, I stayed hungry and kept working to maintain this honor, and I finished on the honor role for the entirety…

Education has always been one of the most important things to me, and I am dedicated to learn as much as humanly possible. Throughout my high school career I have challenged myself by completing six advanced placement classes and taking other honors classes. I have taken these classes as a way to help guide myself for what is to come in the future in college. I was inducted into the National Honors Society during my junior year of high school, and I graduated with honors. Both of these successes are the two greatest accomplishments of my high school career. These two achievements prove how dedicated I was, and still am, to getting the best education I could. My quality of dedication will stick with me throughout my future endeavors.…

Tossing my graduation cap into the air was a bitter-sweet moment. It symbolized all my proud accomplishments and hard work over the years--the sweat, the tears, the joy, the Monday morning coffees and countless hours of trying to staying awake until 1AM to prepare for the final exam. Throwing the graduation cap into the air also symbolized ambiguity-- something I feared.…
