Experience with surroundings and situation – As I had been into this subway before many times I understood and knew the routine and also the limitations I already had because of my dwarfism. This meant I needed to be aware of the height of the counter also when deciding how to effectively communicate with the server.
Common sense – I had to determine an easy way to communicate, so one that wouldn’t require a lot of hands to carry it and also a lot of time in case there were going to be people behind me in the line, therefore creating a relaxed environment. When deciding where each item on the board should be placed was down to choosing to use common sense as subway already has a systematic routine in place. This meant separating my symbols and objects into categories and sections to save confusion, as well as time when implementing the lunch order as preparation was able to be completed in advance. Subway, Port Lincoln 11:30am –as it was a quieter period there was one person before me and a few tables of people sitting down who already received their meals. This meant I could take my time and not worry about people who could have been behind me if it was a different time of the day.
