If I had a disclosure made to me regarding any form of bullying I would initially make it clear to the individual that I was there to support them and listen and that I appreciate how difficult it must have been for them to approach me. I would be empathetic as the individual may be feeling ashamed and embarrassed about the situation and I would praise them for bringing it to my attention. I think it would also be important to reassure the individual that they are not alone as many people suffer and that it is the bully that has the problem and not them. I would try to document the allegations with as much detail as I could from the individual so that I have an accurate record of events from their perspective.
