Why did the world go to war in 1914?
In 28 July 1914, the war started which created over 37 million casualties and put people through blood, fear, which later named as World War 1 the war took 4 years, 3 months and 1 week, leaving memory to people during the world that they will never forget with the unpleasant sequel. Even though the war ended 1918, which is 96 years from now, but still there are a lot of hypothesis, theories, and even conspiracy theory about why did the world go to war in 1914, causing Italy, Austria Hungary, Germany, ottoman Empire and Bulgaria fight against Russia, France, Britain and USA. To begin with, one of the main caused whole world to go in the world is because grid - imperialism and alliance.
When we look before the World War 1 happens, we could easily figure out that there was huge tension and are rivalry between each country, such as arms and naval race. However, to figure out the tension and why country made alliance, which resulted whole European country to the war, the most important thing is Franco-Prussian War. In July 19th of 1870, France declared war toward Prussia. However, the army of Prussia was well structured and strong and even more, north German confederation and south German empire helped Prussia and sent an army, which made higher possibility of wining. However, compare to Prussian army, army of the France was not that weak, but the problem was that people in France refused to develop their army, which is main cause of the losing the war. As the seesaw of the war shifted towards Germany, Napoleon finally surrendered. But German kept going on attack, which resulted Paris to demolish. By this war, the Prussian Army got world wide fame, which helped world’s military thought to flow towards Germany – start to think of idea of imperialism. And this made other European country worry about Germany because there was no more land left for Germany which suggested that Germany will attack some of the colonies sooner or later, especially Britain who had huge colonies. While whole Europe was watching and tracing the movement of Germany, Germany finally proved that the prediction of other country was right – arms and navel

In 1906, suddenly Germany started to build massive amount of the dreadnoughts. However, when we look at the map of Germany, it doesn’t have large coastline, which means there are no need to build more battleship/dreadnoughts, unless they are considering fighting against other country to gain colony. This alerted Britain, the danger of loosing colony, which made them to build more ships, beginning of the Naval races. The affect of Naval races didn’t only changed mind of Britain. For example, right after the start of the Naval race, 1907 Britain, France and Russia joined together to form alliance, which named as Triple Entente. This created a lot more tension to what was made before, the rivalry and wariness, because both Arms and Naval races divided the Europe in to two parts with massive amount of weapons created. Also, each country in Europe didn’t had good impression toward other countries, for example France and Germany, the Prussian war. Therefore, whole Europe was looking for trigger that will fire the oil that has already been spoiled – Adgir Crisis. In 1911, Germany finally attacked colony of France, which was in Morocco. Germany thought the alliance (triple Entente) is nothing but paper, but the intervention of Britain proved that they were wrong. After this, the Europe got conviction of distrust toward other countries, lager and lager tension, time bomb.
Also, rise of idea of nationalism was another factor that caused world go to war in 1914. As the paragraph above shows, during 14th and 17th century, idea of imperialism, rivalry that the country needs to have colony was spreading. Therefore, the only concern of European country was all about making colony. However, as the world develops and rises of Germany, there was more man needed to fight for imperial country for colonized country. Therefore, country like Morocco, which had no freedom to be independent start to think about having independence after Morocco crisis. Therefore, some of the colonized country started to grow their power, and succeeded to win their right back, such as Serbia, Bosnia, Romania and Bulgaria – Balkan Areas. The spreading of ideas of independence didn’t looked such a big deal toward countries like Germany and Britain, but they got to know that they are all connected/ have relationship between conflict to win independence, alliance. In Balkan area, the most dangerous / hot place was Serbia, which just gained independence from Ottoman Empire, because they was trying to gain more and more land, which made them double size. While they was growing power, for perspective of Austria Hungary, Serbia was not a pleasant to watch. However, while they were growing tension, they finally broke out in Bosnia, which Serbia was trying to ‘eat’ as name of ‘combining Slavic’ but taken over to Austria Hungary. Therefore the conflict between two country started but as the conflict goes on, it become larger scale that nobody could stop them. For example, Russia was in side of Serbia and Germany was in ally with Serbia. And more and more countries joined to stop the conflict, but in some way, to avoid other rival country from getting more land. If the Arms and Naval race was creating the weapon, it become targeting the gun in early 19th century. Each country had certain desire for something, such as colony for Germany. And finally, the trigger that Europe was waiting for has fired, Assassination.
