Explain Why Paddy Should Not Be Together
As the loneliness is paddy’s heart grew bigger and bigger. He started to drown himself at Blarneys Bar and Grill which was Paddy’s favorite hangout. As Paddy was drinking himself into a coma of beer and loneliness, he just so happens to meet Miss Anysbryd. Which as his mother says Anysbryd means evil spirit in her Gaelic language. Paddy’s girlfriend scarlet and himself should not be together, one reason why they should not be together is because Paddy had slept over at scarlet’s house, but then by noon of the next he awoke in his own bedroom. This reason clearly shows that this scarlet is some sort of witch, just like the bartender O’Shaunnessy said “To tell you the truth, I am not sure she’s human. There’s something fae about her that make me think …show more content…
As Scarlet was speeding and clearly going over the speed limit like a bat out of hell, Paddy says he “swore that they were flying”. She and Paddy were quickly pulled over by a cop. The cop then pulled them over and angrily said “Hey lady. Not only were you doing fifty miles over the speed limit, but you completely ignored every traffic signal. Are you nuts or what?” As angry as the cop had been at Scarlet, for clearly breaking most of the road laws, he let Scarlet of with just a warming because Scarlet “stared into the cop’s eyes for a few moments. Slowly, as though he were in a trance, he put away his book, tipped his hat, said.” Try to be careful next time. The cop who had been mad at Scarlet and was about to give her, the biggest of tickets, just let her off with a warming, just because she had looked into his eyes and probably bewitched and controlled his

Cayden thought this was odd, as her car was brand new. Her car shuddered again, as she passed the sign that said, “Gas Next 40 Miles.” Her eyes flashed to the screen in her car which read, “Empty.” She thought of her mother saying, “Don’t forget to stop for gas before your head out.” Cayden’s car came to a rolling stop.…

Her hand began to slowly wander from around his neck down to his thigh. She leaned over and whispered something softly into his ear. He felt as though he was paralyzed, or suspended in time. The thoughts raced through his mind at a blinding speed. "I don't want it to be like this; not our first time. This is so messed up. What do I do?" She continued to stare at him with a mischievous look in her eye, looking for some sort of sign or signal. He could not put this off any longer, so he made a quick decision to leave. He grabbed her hand; however he led her not to a bedroom, but out the back door. They got in his car and she leaned over for a kiss, but he shied away and surprisingly fired up the ignition. "Taking a break from studying around midnight, Sarah decided to drive to get coffee in her brand new convertible Mercedes. On her way to the coffee shop, while looking down to read an incoming text, she ran a stop sign on a neighborhood street and was pulled over by the police. In a thick Southern accent, the officer asked her for her driver's license and insurance verification. As she was handing both to the officer, she realized she was wearing her spring break t-shirt with the words, "I Survived Spring Break 2012." Nervously, she blurted out, "Officer, I am a college student, and I have been studying, and I have not been drinking, and I am just going to get coffee." After receiving a ticket from the police officer she noticed her badge, which stated, "Protect and Serve." Her frustration quickly dissipated as she realized that the police officer was carrying out her duty to maintain public safety and her actions could have caused a serious accident. Contemplating the night's event, she drove 10 miles under the speed limit the rest of the way to the coffee shop."…

In ‘Mr Bleaney’ Larkin presents setting as an extremely reclusive place which has an everlasting and overpowering effect on the persona, making him very agoraphobic. The repetitive and constant ‘ABAB’ rhyme scheme throughout this poem hints at the continual and dull life the persona leads, being forced to live a constant, boring life sculpted by Mr Bleaney’s previous existence. The lexis ‘stayed’ also reiterates the lack of ambition the persona feels towards being any different to Mr Bleaney. The previous occupant Mr Bleaney relied on his house ‘the whole time’, and the persona is starting to behave similarly. The end of the poem ‘I don’t know.’, ending with a caesura displaying irony, is a powerful ending which is the personas way of justifying superiority or difference, and the irony that he is actually like Mr Bleaney, a reclusive and restrictive man. The metaphorical use of pathetic fallacy ‘frigid wind’ is hinting at the outside world trying to torpon the previous occupant to come outside more frequently, but due to his contentment with confinement, he chose never to. ‘That how we live measures our own…

Wages of females were relatively low compared to men. In fact, they only gained 54%-60% of what men did and earned just over $8 a week (Mixbook). The female labor force that expanded in the 19th century were mostly young and unmarried. In the workplace, women were often discriminated against for the long held belief that they belonged at home. No matter the tedious amount of work, women were glad that it gave them an opportunity to leave the house (Women Suffrage Movement). Even though they were making a small amount of cash, it gave them more independence.…

Drover had possessed for the letter and the man who wrote to her. She feared him because she had barely known him and had presumed he was dead years ago. Because of this fear, Mrs. Drover was content to leave and escape before the man found her, no matter his intentions. She had no idea what the man looked like or who he was so she had become very cautious of every action taken from then on. She was very dead set on avoiding contact with her so called “fiancé” and would do anything to avoid him “You have no time to run from a face you do not expect(Bowen3).” Being careful she would attempt to get in a taxi to meet her train to take her home. As she attempts this “escape” she does this with caution, “The rain had stopped; the pavements steamily shown as Mrs. Drover let herself out by inches from her own front door into the empty street(Bowen4).” But, however, her eminent escape may seem to simple and naïve, much the same as her own…

Ever since I was able to run, I developed an attachment to my red and black basketball. I have been a basketball player since the age of four and joined my first team when I was in Kindergarten. While I was in elementary school, it was difficult for me to communicate with my peers because I only knew Arabic and basic English. However, on the basketball court, everything made sense. Everyone in the gym spoke the same language. No matter where I played – Maine, Massachusetts, or Egypt – there was always a similar connection between me, the sport, and my teammates.…

Patrick Kavangh’s earlier works such as ‘Inishkeen Road: July Evening’, demonstrate the poet’s sense of isolation and frustration. ‘Inishkeen Road’ is a particularly good example of this as it is about the difficult existence of the poet and his desire to attend the country dance in ‘Billy Brennan’s barn’. I could understand the poet’s feelings here because as a teenager in Ireland today the main goal is to ‘fit in’ with ones peers. ‘I have what every poet hates in spite of solemn talk of contemplation’, I really admire the poet’s honesty here as he expresses his sense of isolation and the feeling that he is different from all the others in Co. Monaghan. The sibilance in the line ‘a footfall tapping secrecies of stone’ is wonderfully evocative. I could empathise with Kavanagh here. He felt that he was missing the key to unlocking the meaning of ‘the wink-and-elbow language of delight’ and the ‘half-talk code of mysteries’. This is a universal theme as it is something that all young people fear.…
