it’s okay. Someone may tell another that plagiarism is okay, which it is not, and they do it and they get in trouble (Lockman). Once that person knows the other person gets caught, they flee as fast as they can, so they don’t get in trouble. The second reason is the media. Most people will believe anything and everything they get from the media, which consists of TV, magazines, the Internet, radio, the news and so much more. They think because a famous person said it, or it was on the news means it must be true. People lie, people may send or receive the wrong information or want one person to look bad or good. Richard Jewell first was a heroic security guard to being a suspect of the Olympic bombing and then back again came to symbolize the excesses of law enforcement and the news media. He later died and they said it was because of natural causes (Sack 1). He was first known as a hero then he was a suspect and then back to normal. Also the media really only shows the things to make celebrities look bad usually. Take Justin Bieber for instants. Yes, he has done some bad things in his life, fame did get to him a little, but he also does a lot with his fame that is good. He has a lot of money and a lot of that money he uses it to help others in need. He has his own charity, he donates thousands upon thousands of dollars to people who need it, with the money he gets from his concert tickets he gives some, maybe most of the money to multiple charities, he also visits sick kids in hospitals that he has never met before. The media shows very little of all the good he’s done and show everything he has done that hasn’t been so great, which also he is a teenager and a lot of teenagers do about the same thing, yes they shouldn’t but the media makes it worst than what he really is. So, the media makes him look like a horrible person. Lastly, people being to scared to do what is right.
They are too afraid that society will treat them differently if they thought differently. In the book To Kill A Mockingbird, Tom Robinson is accused of raping Mayella Ewell. There is enough evidence to prove that he did not do it. Atticus talks about, in the testimony, that she came onto Tom and kissed him. She did it because she is lonely. She also said, “you’d would be the first man I kissed, and anything my dad does, doesn’t count,” so that kind of makes you think that her dad has maybe sexually abused her. Also Tom has a crimpled left arm and Mayella was hit on her right side of her face, by a left handed person. Also Bob, her dad, is left-handed (Lee 393-395) Later on the verdict says that Tom is guilty. You know by all the evidence that he is clearly not. It also took a couple hours to make the decision. It should have been a quick decision but it wasn’t. So, you know that they had to really think about it and the people probably thought about saying he is not guilty, but they went with how society is and were to scared to vote against
it. All of these reasons are why people are wrongly accused everyday. I’m sure there are plenty more but the three main ones are untrue facts, what they put out into the world (the media), and afraid of doing what is right. If people didn’t do these things and listened to their heart and do what they know is right, things like this wouldn’t happen. People wouldn’t die, get in trouble, put in jail, and so much more. The people who aren’t guilty of what they are accused of could live their life happy and how it was going before. The people who are guilty but aren’t accused could actually be the ones who get put in jail for doing what they did.
