1.1 Personal hygiene is important to maintain to ensure good health and wellbeing. Having a clean and respectable appearance will help maintain individuals self-esteem making them feel better in themselves in and around the company of others and to enjoy life more. For the elderly hygiene becomes more personal and private. When helping individuals with personal hygiene it is important to be sensitive and to respect their dignity.

When I support an individual in the shower I always make sure the door is closed behind me and the shower curtain is pulled around to ensure the individuals feel covered up where possible and want to maintain their dignity and respect, less eye contact will help the individual become more relaxed and avoid embarrassment. Whilst assisting with personal care it is important to notice any signs of bruising or any awareness of abuse, so it can be monitored and stopped. All of the personal care should be documented in the individuals care plan.
2.6 In order to reduce risks to own health when supporting personal hygiene routine is that the correct protective equipment is worn and disposed of correctly for example gloves and a gown. It is important that after helping with personal hygiene hands are washed and gloves are disposed of correctly to prevent the spread of infection. Very basic measures could help prevent colds and coughs to be passed on from person to person.
3.1 There are a few ways an individual may neglect them and cause poor hygiene such
