Many countries were not prepared for war. Many had just come out of war with other countries and were not recovered yet from war. Russia as an example just came out of war with Japan in which it lost. It was not yet prepared so many countries did not have intensive plans for the war.     Wars are large and complicated affairs. The first word war was the product of many, many things. Although the war officially began on July 28th, 1914, it had been building up for a while.
