Explain Why Students Should Not Work In Groups Essay
Imagine hearing your teacher tell the class to find a partner. You start to panic when you realize you have no friends in that class and don’t know what to do. Then, your teacher tells you to get a partner and all the attention is put on you. Some students feel uncomfortable working with others especially if they don’t know them very well. Students should not have to work in groups because the work won’t all be put on one student, the student won’t have to worry about social anxiety, and the student won’t be distracted by the group.

One reason students shouldn’t have to work in groups is because one student might have to do all the work. Some students might choose not to participate and leave the work to the rest of the group. One student

Social anxiety makes students anxious in groups and they won’t be able to focus as well. They also won’t speak up very much, so they will most likely be left out of the group. This would make them even more uncomfortable in a group than they already were. If students are put in groups, social anxiety will make them very uncomfortable.

The last reason students shouldn’t be put into groups is because groups can cause distractions. Most of the time students are in a group, they will get off topic. They will start talking about something other than the work they were assigned to do. A student might also be thinking about how they would rather not be working in a group and get distracted. These things will cause the students to work slower and not get as much done.

Some individuals think that it would be better if students did work in groups. In a group the work would be divided between students and they would have their group to help them with their work. However, anxiety disorders affect approximately 25 percent of teens making it very difficult for these teens to work in a group. It would be best to avoid putting students in groups for this
