The aim of today’s lab was to help us identify different households and their components, they contained whether they were acid/ base, because most of the households are based on those solutions like (i.e. Acetic acid = Vinegar = CH3COOH can be used in cooking) or bases solutions like (bleach is applied for cleaning and also to remove dirt’s). And to identify those substances we can do testify them by observing the change in litmus paper (i.e. acids when the dissolve in the solution they produces Hydronium ions H3O+ which can turn the litmus paper into red, in the contrary if the substance was a base it will produces hydroxide ions in the solution and they will change the color of the litmus paper into blue).
Also we can identify the element by observing some gas producing and bubbles like most substances that contains carbonate ions like Sodium bicarbonate it will effervesces when reacts with an acid. …show more content…
And there is the strong electrolyte: Which dissociates completely into ions when it dissolve in the solution, and therefore can conduct electricity (i.e. ionic compounds, but different ionic compounds have different measurements because different number of ions presents in the solution, the greater the presence of the ions the greater the conductivity). Weak electrolytes: which don’t dissociate completely in the solution the majority of it stays as a molecule and therefore not much of ions can carry the charge (i.e. CH3COOH). Non-electrolytes: Don’t have ions dissolved in the solutions and therefore have a zero conductivity (i.e. DI water
