Explain Why Was Brazil Called The Cortes
Brazil began their fight to independence in1820. Brazil’s first constitution was called the Cortes during the ruling time of King Dom John VI. When the king had left he left his power to his son Prince Dom Pedro.The Portugal military officers who resided in Brazil were led by General Jorge Avilez. General Avilez ordered Prince Pedro to banish his Ministers of the Kingdom and Finances. The military had no respect for the Prince nor the laws. The Prince was torn on whether to leave on not but had chosen to stay and had defied the Cortes. After the Brazilians led an attack on the Portuguese led by the Royal Guard. Ten thousand armed Brazilians surrounded the Portuguese army and the Prince ordered General Avilez to remove his army from the
