On the first day of eighth grade I was very anxious to see what friends I would have in class. In science, I had about two friends in class that I knew, Sammy and Lou, and there was another girl that Sammy knew so we all sat together. When I went to seminar I saw the girl so I sat next her and learned her name was Carla. The two of us had a lot in common from music to favorite TV shows. A couple months later in science, we were put into different groups and I sat with Sammy and Lou sat Carla. Lou would always complain about her, about how loud and rude she was. The teacher switched Lou and I seats, so now I sat with Carla, which I had no problem with it since I really like her. My other friends started telling me that they did not like her they found her annoying and thought she was a horrible person. They all…
"Words mean more than what is set down on paper. It takes the human voice to infuse them with the shades of deeper meaning."…
Simple quotes can have such an impact on how a story ends. For example, in “Hills like White Elephants” when the girl tells the man that she does not care about herself, he replies that he cares about her. If the man said he did not care for her then the outcome of the story could have ended up with the girl leaving the man at the train station. In society everyday we currently change our opinions without realizing. We see and experience new occurrences and tasks which influence us to act in different ways, most of the time we do it without realizing how much we actually change our minds. People that are around us daily also have an influence on who we are as a person and our thoughts on concepts that we may have never thought about before. For example, professor’s parents, and co- workers can all have an influence in your life. In the work place tasks may come up that co- workers do not handle well due to stress. That could influence you to act in the same way or just create more work for you in the future. Professor’s are always influencing you to think about new topics depending on the subject they specialize in. Being an business major professors are always trying to influence you into a more distinct business field, such as accounting or marketing. Parents have always influenced your life since you…
If the word has the potency to revive and make us free, it has also the power to blind, imprison and destroy. -Ralph Elision-…
Next, we are going to look at how no matter what communication is irreversible. In the movie Harry tells Sally she is attractive, Sally takes it the wrong way and becomes upset. Harry sees this and says "Well I take it back." But Sally already has heard it and the damage is done and she even tells Harry he can't take it back. This shows quite nicely how communication is irreversible. We see with the reaction of Sally that she didn't take it the right way and at that instant if Harry could have he would have taken it back. No matter what communication has an impact, and once we say something to another person it becomes part of the relationship.…
From dictators to liberators, words have been used to get points across and communicate with other people. They harness an abundant amount of power and can be used to inspire, motivate, and evoke certain emotions. Depending on the speaker, they can choose to use their power of words for the greater good or for their own good. Adolf Hitler used his power of words to cause harm, consequently using his power for his own good. Martin Luther King Jr. used his power of words to end prejudice and injustices across the United States, consequently using his words for the greater…
Words … words are things we use and hear literally all of the time, although they give us the power to communicate, they are certainly not as influential or manipulative as they have the ability to be. Nazi Germany is a place where the use of the immense power of combined letters is perfected. In the novel, The Book Thief, by Markus Zusak, words are used to create goodness, comfort, and sanity in a time of war. When wielded by the correct person, a strong vocabulary also has the chance to manipulate any man into changing his mind completely. Lastly, simple conversations can even give someone the ability to live, or they can mean the…
In Shakespeare’s play Hamlet, the power of words helps drive the central action of the plot. First of all, it becomes clear that the words themselves have the power to shape and create a sense of reality. Without a steady stream of words, both internal and external, much of the tragic action in each play would likely be stunted. In Hamlet, words are weapons and can be like poison in the ear or like daggers. Hamlet’s deep connection with language and words causes him to base his perceptions of reality on his interpretation and understanding of words. Being a contemplative man, this is both one of Hamlet’s greatest gifts as well as Hamlet’s flaw.…
Human speech is more than letters to communicate: it is a powerful magic wand by which we can obtain any desire to heal any disease, transform any situation. If raised with absolute faith and with full confidence, the magic wand has the power to change in an adverse situation to the most favorable one that involves you and other…
Influence, the capacity to have an effect on the character, development, or behavior of someone or something. There is a good chance that most of us have been influenced by someone or something throughout our lifetime. We all offer the ability to influence, and to be influenced. In 2011 when I joined my school's marching band, I did not realize the influence it would have on my life by teaching me teamwork, self-discipline, time management, and dedication.…
An individual itself has own thoughts and own morals to do something. Individuals have their own brain to take action on thing, yes they could be swayed to think away but not necessarily be forced to do something, they have to be willing under their own will. So for example a Rosa parks did influence the way martin Luther King thought but did not make him due the actions he did. Dr. King did the actions because that’s what he believed were right, he wanted to do these actions to show the world what he thought. In this case though the influence was a positive influence because his actions helped make the civil right movement get the attention and the right solution it did.…
Language plays an important role in communication by bringing people together and enriching their relationships. Language can also alienate those who do not speak it properly, or at all, from those who do. The essays, Mother Tongue, by Amy Tan, best known for her book, The Joy Luck Club, and Se Habla Espanol, by Tanya Barrientos, delve into the many powers that language holds. These essays reflect how by not speaking a language in proper form and by not speaking a language at all, affects the lives of the subjects of the stories.…
Second, powerful words can change egos. In general, people like hear praise of the outside looking of themselves from others. Because of that, people will try to change themselves to look good. This is to change the outside, people also will to change the inside of themselves by words.…

Robin Williams once said, “No matter what people tell you, words and ideas can change the world.” Numerous people today would disagree with the statement words hold more power than weapons. However, Nelson Mandela, Martin Luther King Jr., and Decius from The Tragedy of Julius Caesar are all examples throughout history that clearly reveal that words can entice the most influential people. I completely agree; words hold more power than weapons. There is an abundant amount of power held in a single word or statement.…
