Explain Why Young Athletes Should Try To Play As Many Sports Essay
My personal belief on this argument is I believe young athletes should try to play as many sports as they can. I was lucky enough to play many sports throughout my life. I played Soccer, Baseball, Football, Basketball. Each and every sport benefited me in some way; they all helped better my skills. Baseball helped my hand eye coordination which benefited me in every sport but really helped in soccer where I also played Goalkeeper as well as forward. Basketball helped me in communication, teamwork, and footwork which helped me in every sport. You don’t have to only play your first sport to better yourself at it; Other sports like I said could help you because every sport uses the same basic skills for the most part. Each sport taught me new skills and helped improve other skills, and they helped me excel in each sport. I did choose to only play soccer once I got in high school. I didn't even specialise in my position till high school as well. I played forward and Goalkeeper my whole life and i'm thankful that I did because it benefited me so much. I did finally choose to just be a Goalkeeper but I owe all my success in sports, to the sports I played …show more content…
More and more young athletes are specializing at younger age this leads “to an increase in overuse injuries, overtraining, and burnout, according to a 2016 report from the American Academy of Pediatrics” (Aubrey). Early specialization has had positive impact on some sports such as Gymnastics and Figure Skating but in most other sports early specialization is detrimental. Kids should not specialise in one sport until their bodies and minds are mature. They need to be mature physically and mentally before they specialise.
