1. Exploratory
2. Descriptive
3. Causal
These classifications are made according to the objective of the research
EXPLORATORY RESEARCH
What is Exploratory Research?
Exploratory research is an initial research conducted to clarify and define the nature of a problem. Thus, when a researcher has a limited amount of experience with or knowledge about a research issue, Exploratory Research would be useful in providing adequate understanding of the issue to ensure more conclusive study in future. The objective of such research is to formulate very precise questions that can answer future research. It might be the first stage of a series of studies.
Definite answers cannot be produced by exploratory research. It has very few guidelines to follow making it difficult to conduct.
Exploratory research may develop hypotheses, but it does not seek to test them. However, exploratory research is characterized by its flexibility in the subject matter of research.
Exploratory research could specifically produce some goals which are as follows:
1. Familiarity with basic details, settings and concerns.
