Explore The Advantages And Disadvantages Of Telehealth Nursing
The purpose of this assignment is to explore the specialty of telehealth, and more specifically telenursing, as one example of the use of technology in various practice settings. Advantages and disadvantages for the patient and legal and ethical principles for the nurse of this technology will be explored. “Telehealth nursing is defined as “the use of telehealth/telemedicine technology to deliver nursing care and conduct nursing practice.” Telenursing, telehealth nursing, nursing telepractice are interchangeable. As medicine and technology makes advancements we must change our logic of thinking to rationalize the advantages and disadvantages of where our future is heading. We will explore some advantages of telenursing such as the aptitude to allocate beneficial medical information across the globe. Since we do not know everything there is to know about medical problems receiving input from a world renowned specialist would benefit the patient also saving time as well as expenses to travel to another location. Travel to remote locations may be lengthy and when time is of an essence the rapid ability of an expert to provide feedback in care would benefit the patient. Unfortunately a power outage could halt a consultation with the provider. If the program has a glitch or is down for maintained this would also cost timely delays in care. Also online information can be hacked and therefore both patient and providers feel some resistance to have communication only through the web. I also feel it is the resistance of the doctors would be a large hurdle to overcome. However as doctors begin to see that it would decrease the rate of admisssions they may soon feel telemedicine is more cost efficient way to practice
