Christopher Columbus
Christopher Columbus deserves to be in the Hall of Fame because of his determination. His first voyage to the Atlantic Ocean almost costed his life, but Columbus was still so determined to find new land.
The boat he was sailing on was attacked by a French ship off the coast of
Portugal, his ship was burned down and he had to swim to the Portuguese shore and make his way to Lisbon, Portugal.
Columbus started his voyage as a teenager and spent his whole life journeying throughout the world. He was determined to find a direct water route west from
Europe to Asia, but he never did. Instead, he accidentally stumbled upon the Americas. He participated in several other voyages and was also credited for opening up the Americas to the European colonization.
Marco Polo Marco Polo was a merchant, who journeyed across Asia at the age of 17, this is why he deserved to be on the Hall of Fame. He first set off with his father and uncle, they spent about
24 years traveling. They traveled along what is now to be the Silk Road.
Marco Polo became famous for his travels, especially because he coauthored a popular book while he was be held captive in a Genoese prison. This book
The Travels of Marco Polo made Polo a huge celebrity, the book describes his travels and experiences and influenced later adventurers and merchants. His story has inspired numerous adventurers to set off and see the world. When
Christopher Columbus set of on his voyage, in his hand was a copy of Marco Polo's book.
