Exploring the corporate culture of Emirates Airline’s HR department, how their unique management style helps enforce the Vision and Mission of the Emirates group.

Emirates Airline Started business in 1985 with two aircrafts and a handful of enthusiastic people, however they grow at a phenomenal rate. The airline is now the fastest growing airline in the world, flying to over 125 destinations across 6 continents. Also it is the largest airline in the Middle East operating over 3,000 flights per week, from its hub (Dubai), and operates four of the ten longest nonstop commercial flights. In order to achieve their vision which is; “To build and maintain market leadership that looks beyond conventional track,” and their mission of “maintaining steady growth rate of 20% in the years to come in spite of all the adverse situations that plagued airline business all over the world,” the Airline unlike other business organizations holds their Human Resource department team in high esteem because they know that they are the driving force to achieving and maintaining the company's vision and mission.
On that note, the Company carefully selected their HR manager based on the following detailed qualifications and requirements; “A high-caliber university degree is essential in a statistical subject or HR-related field, in addition, a post-graduate diploma in HR management or CIPD is essential. 8+ years working in HR, with experience in a remuneration role including researching terms and conditions of employment and policies, must be an expert in their field, with professional expertise in global remuneration structures covering all pay and general personnel policy conditions essential in the airline industry. Have an advanced in-depth knowledge of analytical packages, particularly of Microsoft Excel, an in-depth knowledge and use of

People, employees and customers, not products and machines per se, must be the arena of an organization’s core competence. The implications are vast and pervasive affecting no less than the organization’s structure, strategy, culture, and numerous operational activities. Human resource management (HRM), the management of people within the internal environment of organizations, comprises the activities, policies, and practices involved in planning, obtaining, developing, utilizing, evaluating, maintaining, and retaining the appropriate numbers and skill mix of employees to achieve the organization’s objectives. While an extensive review of literature on HRM in the aviation industry revealed a substantial amount of material on aviation psychology and human factors research, empirical research on HRM practices in the global civil aviation industry appears to be virtually non-existent. In a pioneering human resource management audit conducted in 2001-2, 13 respondents from nine countries—executives from their respective airline companies—participated in a lengthy audit of their organizations’ HRM practices. The extensive body of data collected from this audit was then compared and contrasted with a review of the literature on all 16 HRM categories covered in the audit.
