I discovered that over the course of three days I made an average of forty five (45) sarcastic comments. On the Friday, I made forty-four comments. On Saturday, I made 42 comments and on the Sunday I made 49 comments. Some factors could have affected this data. This was the weekend of Thanksgiving. I worked everyday, except for Friday and my Grandparents came up with my aunt. These were stressful times that could have caused an increase in sarcastic comments. In my table (Figure 1), I made a 1 for every time I said something that was the opposite of what I meant.

I managed to go from an average of 45 comments to an average of 29 comments a day. That’s a huge improvement. Some contributing factors include: more sleep, less hours at work, and the threat of a punishment. I decided that to guarantee a reduction in sarcasm, I would need something that would be even more important to me then an off-hand comment would be. I decided that every time I said something that was the opposite of what I meant I would punish myself by not being allowed to talk for 20 seconds. I owe the secret to my success, not to the idea that I could not talk, but to actually not talking. Every time I felt I would need to say something, I would count to ten and allow the conversation the move on without my two sense. This worked for the most part but admittedly, I did forget to try this and then would have to be punished with no talking for 20 agonizing
