Throughout time there have been many cases in which someone had to stop and think what they should do in a situation and what they want to do. John Proctor in The Crucible written by Arthur Miller, Mike Shanahan with the Washington Redskins, and Morton Schmidt/Doug McQuaid in 21 Jump Street are all examples of what one should do and wants to do. In the play The Crucible, John Proctor was deeply affected by a group of girls that wanted to be different. Abigail Williams was the girl behind all of the trouble and wanted to have Proctor fall in love with her and get Proctor’s wife, Elizabeth, out of his life. By the end of the story, many people have lost their lives or freedom due to Abigail, including John Proctor. Proctor had to decide if he wanted to live or not, if he wanted to live he would have to confess to being a witch and hang the confession on the church door so everyone would see it. Proctor did not want to ruin his reputation around town and wanted to keep his name honorable, so Proctor had to hang until death for not confessing. “Because it is my name! Because I cannot have another in my life! Because I lie and sign myself those lies! Because I am not worth the dust on my feet of them to hang! How may I live without my name? I have given you my soul; leave me my name!” This statement said by Proctor to Judge Danforth before Proctor was hung.
