Even through his children’s books and poems, Burton reveals the absurdity of our consumerist society and its hierarchical organization. In nearly all of his work, even doodles, Burton calls attention to societal issues which he believes to be most prominent. For instance, he will repeatedly draw caricatures of girls mindlessly obsessing over their physical appearance, or a perverse man undressing a woman with his eyes, or even a man covered in blood going to a gun shop asking for more bullets (.
