school extracurricular activity that outside of looking impressive on college applications, had virtually no use. To me, Westernaires was a teen angst filled protester that snuck into my aquarium in the dead of night and graciously set me free. Being on that team was a way for me to break out of my shell and be apart of something much bigger than myself. I had taken dance and trained to be on this team for basically my entire life and felt like I had this whole dance team thing in the bag, but nothing could have prepared me for our first outdoor practice. It was the middle of the day on the center of the football practice field in the bullseye of summer, the temperature had reached well over 95 degrees and the rain that had been sitting on

The move Amistad and the story “Interesting Narrative of the life of Olaudah Equiano” have many similarities. The three similarities between the story and Amistad are the ways that the slaves were treated, the conditions of the ships, and the reactions of the slaves. In both the movie and the book slaves had to overcome horrific conditions to be freed, In the movie the main character Cinque was captured sold and thrown onto the Amistad and into the life of slavery but yet he was fought for and he finally made it home, In the story Olaudah finally was also on a slave ship and was sold into slavery.…

Ever since I was a little girl I dreamt about being on the Indianettes dance team. Dancing has been a part of my life from the age of four up until now. When I was younger I was not the best dancer but I loved it, and my mom already paid for my classes so i was kind of stuck doing it anyways. My eighth grade year I was preparing to tryout for the Indianettes, I was stretching, working on my technique, and working on my jumps and turns. It turns out that the old coach Sheri Bradley quit and the Indianettes had a new fairly inexperienced coach named MariAnn Barfus. I wasn't very confident about making the team. Long story short, I ended up making it along with Jaidyn Harris, Hannah Hyde, Daphnie Colpron, Carson Davis, Becca Osterhout, Mechelle…

First of all, I greatly appreciate the invitation to join the prestigious National Honor Society; and I am ecstatic to potentially have the opportunity to have such an impact on my school and community. I absolutely adored being a member of the National Junior Honor Society, and participating in HarvestFest, American Education Week, and all of the other wonderful community projects the Honor Society was involved in. I would love to continue to participate in these important activities through my continued membership in Honor Society. As I transition to high school, I have learned many valuable things; for instance, being a good student as a result of many factors, not just test scores and class grades. student and Community member requires…

I am a graduate from Glen Oaks Community College and I would love to continue my education with Glen Oaks and their Nursing Program. I am a very athletic person, therefore in my free time my activities include running, playing sports, coaching and being involved with my family. Working two jobs, one being a Nursing Assistant and Unit Technician at The Community Health Center of Branch County and the other doing in home care for an elderly patient, does make it difficult to find free time. With what little free time I do have I enjoy spending it with my family as they are very important to me. I try to make it a routine to visit with my grandmas to have lunch with them and to drive them around where ever is needed due to the fact that they both cannot drive. I am currently training to run a marathon in May. During softball season, I volunteer with the coaching staff at the Coldwater High School. My greatest satisfaction so far in life, is the fact that I am one of few to have graduated from a college with a degree within my family. I am proud to say that I have paid for me education with my hard work. I hope with the help of Glen Oaks Community College I can obtain a new satisfaction of becoming a nurse. It would be my dream come true.…

Tryouts were held every Monday morning. Tuesday morning the list was posted of the girls that made the dance. Everyone that didn’t make the dance stood on the side the entire week during practice and watched. Friday night, the girls dancing took the field and the rest of the girls stood on the side, once again, and watched. Everyone knew our coach was one the hardest around, but I wasn’t scared.…

It was game day the field was rough and dry the goals were painted yellow, the burning hot sun was shining off our helmets. The team practiced so hard for this game it was the game that everyone wanted to see. It was only five bucks to get in. the coaches called all the players out on the intercom for the pre game meal, we were having some watermelon and some chicken and a potato it was very good. The chicken was the best. we started warming up when coach had called us down to the field. We had went over some offense and defense. When defense had went out on the field, we had worked on some pass blocks and some blitz plays. In my opinion pass block was my favorite. Everyone's pads was tied tight, cleats were wrapped with white tape, chin straps…

It was two days until the first game of my sophomore high school football season. My team was pumped! we were going to play Glenville a team that embarrassed us the previous, a battle we relentlessly prepared for since the last game of our freshman year. The sun was beaming off my pads, radiating the heat to make practice seem even worse then it already was. I was exhausted and looking forward to the end of my last sweat poring practice for the week. Our team was repetitively executing plays to make sure they were like second nature to us on Friday. Then, creating an unknown peace, Wheeler yells, "Last Play!" The…

I hadn't had any previous experience in football besides my days on the middle school playground. Practices were long and left me exhausted. As all of the other kids were picked up by their parents, I prepared myself for the long walk home. With my father working and my mother unable to drive, walking was my only method of transportation after a long day of school and practice. In addition to that, my lack of experience showed on the field and I quietly watched on the sideline for most of the season.…
