The first article entitled Extraterrestrial Intelligence: A Skeptical View of Radio Searches is a letter written in response to an article and was posted on Science magazine in 1983. This article talks about the use of radio technology for the SETI program. Tipler makes question on two assertions on the article that was written by other author. The first question is that “the radio search...assumes nothing about other civilizations that has not transpired in ours".Tipler basically says that the radio search that we are …show more content…
He also says that we can’t argue that the other civilizations hasn’t intentionally not send radio signals because we as Earthians haven’t done that either. The only way we couldn’t have received their signal is because we probably lose a lot of signals because of leakage so we could only getting back signals from nearby stars only. Another reason could be because we are using a different frequency to listen to the incoming signals, so we should change the frequency to make it more effective. The second question that tipler does on the other author’s assertion is “the results [of the proposed search]--whether positive or negative--would have profound implications for our view of our universe and others”. Tipler says that the radio search that we are doing could be old age technology compared to what the civilizations might be doing right now. This means that even if they are sending signals it could be in different form and we wouldn’t be able to
