Humans have performed dangerous stunts since the beginning of time. These daredevils, deemed as either utterly insane or as possessing death wishes, are usually viewed by society as mere lunatics: people who do not value their lives. On the surface they are laughed at, but underneath the public condescension and jeering they are viewed with a kind of horrified admiration. Why is this? It is because these individuals are doing what they love without holding back and with no reservations. They are fully aware that they are risking their lives and that death is staring them in the face, but they do not care because they are achieving their dreams. These daredevils set themselves apart from the crowd by acting on their desires when most of the…

Sporting figures have always been globally awarded heroic status due to the amazing physical feats they may overcome. Sport means a great deal to a lot of people and there is globally a great deal of money involved in sporting business annually. In the quest for glory and riches, despite an increase in emotional pressure from the public eye, our modern day warriors push themselves to their physical limits on a daily basis.…
Extreme Sports: Extreme sports are high-intensity activities that involve both speed and stunts. For kids, these activities include snowboarding, snowmobiling, skateboarding, BMX biking, skiing, and motocross. These sports pack big thrills. But they have also caused more than 4 million injuries since 2000.…
Some parents really see the benefit of youth sports but others are major critics and want to see its downfall. 30 million youth have been treated to hospitals overall due to organized sports accidents. Surprisingly, this past year 3.5 million youth have went to the hospital due to organized sports related injuries with 25% of these being considered serious (Sports Injury Statistics). Youth sports are dangerous and it is obvious that there is always a risk when an athlete steps onto a court, field, ring, etc. Many injuries are a result in this action. How can these accidents be controlled and prevented is the question asked by many? No real solution has been created and enforced order to organize this youth sports issue. In order to fix the problem of youth sports the government should completely end youth sports, invest more money into better protective gear for all youth, or re-create the rules for all youth organized sports programs.…
CrossFit’s program has become a competitive sport and has transformed average people into “the toughest athletes on Earth.” These toughest athletes then compete against each other in the CrossFit Games. The goal of the CrossFit Games “is to find the fittest athletes, not to produce an easily replicable workout program.” The CrossFit Games are divided into three sections: the Open, Regionals, and the Reebok CrossFit Games. The first section, the Open, athletes as young as fourteen years old can participate in the five-week winter experience where athletes complete five given workouts. Athletes from all over the world complete these workouts in CrossFit affiliated gyms after the workout is released online every Thursday for the upcoming week. After this stage, the top seventeen world regions send the top athletes from the Open to the Regionals. The Regionals portion of the CrossFit Games is a “live, three-day competition” usually held in May. Athletes out of the seventeen regions then try to qualify either as an individual or with team for the Reebok CrossFit Games. Athletes try their hardest to qualify for the Reebok CrossFit Games because the Games only allow forty individual men, women, and teenagers, along with forty teams and two-hundred masters. Once qualifying for the Reebok CrossFit Games, athletes strive “to distinguish themselves through consistently exceptional performances” so they can prove themselves worthy of the title “Fittest on Earth.” These distinguished acts of strength are scored throughout the games by their placing in each category an athlete participates in. The more an athlete places in an event, the more the chance of being rewarded as the “Fittest on Earth” (“About the Games”). Over the years, many people have been titled the “Fittest on Earth” due to their strong…
The creation of basic motorcycle racing in Britain in the early 1900s lead to the formation of today's widespread popularity of motocross, Supercross, and Harescrambles in the United States. Today, Motocross is one of America’s and Great Britain’s most widely known sports, steadily growing in popularity. Classes are broken down by engine displacement, the rider’s skill level, or the rider’s or bike’s age.…
Therefore, by this definition, one can clearly see why cross-country is a sport. So much of our entertainment today comes from sports, but when we think of them the first ones that come to mind are football, basketball, baseball, and soccer. However, these are clearly not the only sports that exist.…
People have a deep fascination with participating in activities like high risk action sports. Two of the most extreme as well as revered high risk adventures are climbing over 29,000 feet to the top of Mount Everest and diving to depths as deep as 250 feet to the wreckage of the 700 foot luxury yacht Andrea Doria. Though the two seem completely opposite, climbing Mount Everest and Diving the Andrea Doria share some similarities. The similarities amongst the two can be found the most when comparing the Disaster of the 1996 Mount Everest climbing season with the fatal diving accidents that took place at the Andrea Doria. Both of these tragedies display some of the same factors that ultimately led to deadly instances, which are pride and ignorance. These qualities drive the behavior and ambitions of those whom possess them in such a way that they can lead to devastation, which the two events testify to.…
Sports are massive in the entertainment industry, many people across the world enjoy watching them and there are all kinds of sports. My personal favorite sport to do and to watch is BMX. The usual time people can watch BMX is during the Summer X-Games, an intense sporting event focused around the less popular sports including: skateboarding, bike riding, rally racing, and during the Winter X-Games, snowboarding. Something that really got me into BMX, was seeing Dave Mirra land the very first double backflip on a BMX bike. This was even done at the X-Games, during the event, BMX best trick.…
Jack London once said that “The proper function of man to live, not exist. I shall not waste my days trying to prolong them. I shall use my time.” Which is honestly true. Extreme sports are basically a sport where athletes are risking their lives. People do the extreme sports for fun and they enjoy the challenge. Plus, the participant in the sport are going on adventures. Extreme sports are a good idea, because the person who's doing the sport is getting paid. It also helps kids that have Autism and the athletes are living their life to the fullest that they can.…

Robin Ammon, professor of kinesiology and sport science at the University of South Dakota, when asked about his point of view on extreme sport, an activity with great risks, some would say greater risks than video gaming, replied that people should be responsible for their own actions. “There are inherent risks to any kind of activity that you’re involved in,” he says. “Individuals that are going through these need to be well aware of what they are. (Etter, L. (2014). “Extreme sports are more popular than ever, prompting questions about legal liability.” Retrieved May 13, 2016, from http://www.abajournal.com/magazine/article/extreme_sports_are_more_popular_than_ever_prompting_questions/). In retrospect, these words do have some weight in them, as most car accident are due to human error, we can’t just blame video games for the addictions of the players or any other issues they had while playing…
Youth sports give children a huge advantage in their future and throughout their childhood. There are some people that say youth sports are dangerous and a waste of time. Most people see the bad in sports, for example the injuries, or time it takes out of a child’s life, and not the good or behind the scenes. Sports offer more than just physical activity and something to do. “Children who do not develop that passion for a sport or activity at an earlier age may sue participation in a sport as a tool of rebellion in their teenage years” (Phillips). Even both of those things are good too. Sports keep children out of trouble and away from obesity. Playing sports gives a child a better future and can help them with their education. Sports give youth a lot of qualities needed in the outside world. Youth sports benefit children in all aspects of life including, grades, social life, fitness, ect.…
