Criteria 1
In this research task I am going to explain why it’s important to plan to meet the care and learning needs of all children. I am going to discuss the various pieces of legalisation and theoretical perspective which supports this.
Every Child Matters is one of the pieces of legalisation which supports practitioners in meeting the care needs of all children. It has five principles which are: being healthy; economic wellbeing; making a positive contribution; enjoying and achieving and staying safe. Another piece of legislation which practitioners need to adhere to is The Children’s Act 1989. This ensures that all children are kept safe and their individual …show more content…
Planning can help practitioners with the daily running of the setting and the activities which take place within. It also helps meet the children’s care, learning and physical needs, as they can keep a record of the child’s progress and easily put activities in place to develop the child’s individual skills further e.g. cutting activity’s to develop fine mother skills and scissor skills. “Good planning is the key to effective learning. It enables practitioners to develop a knowledge and understanding of how individual children learn and progress” ( Macleod-Brudenell and Kay, 2008, p314). If the practitioner observes the child before implementing activities, then the planning can be more accurate because they have watched activities and observed the skills of the child. From that, they can work out the stage of the development of the child and how to help the child progress further. Planning can help children to learn new skills as different subjects and activities help teach children new things and skills e.g. planning in a maths lesson and teaching children about number bonds to ten with plastic cups. It is important that practitioners use the EYFS or Program of Studies for KS1 and KS2 when planning activity’s to make sure that they follow government guidelines in their practice. The EYFS states that “The overarching aim of the EYFS is to help young children achieve the five every child matters outcomes of staying safe, being healthy, enjoying and achieving, making a positive contribution and achieving economic well-being” (Early Years Foundation Stage 2008
