RIZAL’S EULOGY TO
PANGANIBAN
Panganiban, that excellent companion of labor and difficulty, that amiable friend and countryman beloved, has just described to the tomb at the early age of 27 years. We just caught his last whisper, saw him expire in our arms, as it were, and it seems as if we are listening to his phrases saturated with energetic patriotism, inspired by the purest love of his native land…
His was a desperation to die far, very far from the native soil, separated from his family, from his deepest affections, and in the flower of his youth, in his rosiest illusions and hopes, when a rosy future was in sight…
That is why his last words were of loving remembrance of his idolized Fatherland, were a heartfelt farewell to the Philippines. And if we still take into account certain events of his life consecrated to a most vehement love of his native land, we understand the sorrow of his heart must have felt to see buried with him legitimate hopes, ardent desires, and just aspirations.

DUEL BETWEEN RIZAL
AND RETANA

RIZAL’S EULOGY TO
PANGANIBAN
August 19 (1890), was a day of mourning to numerous Filipinos in Europe. And what a fatal coincidence on the same month and day of the year just passed we had to deplore the death of another friend and countryman, Feliciano
Gonzales Timbang.
A sad fate! Panganiban, endowed with uncommon talent, with privileged intelligence, and with indefatigable industry, was one of the sacred, legitimate hopes of his unfortunate country. That head has been buried in the dust, that vigorous intelligence has been prematurely ended. Filipinas, how unfortunate thou art!

A qualitative and quantitative research-based paper by Albert Kopak (2014) was written to explore the officer's views of being recorded in the line of duty and designed to understand the reasoning behind why civilians would want to record them. The first strength of the article was the sample size for the internet-based survey. This is an important aspect for the research, when considering how difficult it can be to find officers willing to include themselves for a research study. A total of 71 sworn law enforcement officers employed at a variety of agencies from police departments and sheriff's offices completed the survey. The next strength was the methodology used to conduct the survey, snowball sampling approach. This study is important because it allowed the officers to refer fellow officers who were eligible for the study to the researcher. This approach allowed the researcher access to respondents that the research would not normally have the opportunity to contact. Finally, the article's conclusion was incredibly strong and informative of the results. The…

Peter and his father Feliks Skrzynecki have a contrasting experience of belonging to a new land. Through this poem we get to know about as much about the son as the father. The relationship appears to be a wholesome one of mutual respect and friendship as skrzynecki uses formal language .His father wants him to integrate with the Australian culture and his traditions of don’t forget where you come from. Skrzynecki’s poetry and it is there the fractured identity problems originate. While embracing his new country, he yearns to cling to his parents values. But also has to reflect on his culture and the new society facing difficulties of cultural and language barrier that will create a huge distance in their relationship .``Watched me pegging my tents further and further south of Hadrian’s Wall.’’ The use of the metaphors of a tent , a piece of temporary accommodation. Belonging is derived from the association with place (s) or relationships, and the human desire to feel acceptance. Views on belonging alter between individuals as they are subjective and based on an individual's personal experience, for example the struggle to obtain a sense of belonging in a father and son relationship or enduring the complex process of belonging through migration to another country. This is demonstrated in Peter Skrzynecki’s novel immigrant chronicle but more importantly in two of his poems “ Migrant hostel and Felicks Skrzynecki”, as well as Tim Burtons 1990 film ‘ Edward Scissor Hands’…

Through Skrzynecki’s poem ‘St Partricks College’ portrays the disconnections between school and people reflect the lack of desire to belong to the community and obtain a sense of self. The religious imagery of ‘our lady watched with outstretched arms conveys a sense on welcoming and inclusion is juxtaposed with the pathetic fallacy ‘her face overshadowed by clouds’ and this is symbolizes the persona’s insecurities and doubts for the institution. The persona’s disconnections are further reinforced by the irony ‘I’d been privileged to wear’ demonstrates the mother was motivated by values of social status when sending him to the school. It is in all of her intentions to provide him with ‘What was best’. The repetition‘For eight years’indicates his long school time which emphasizes the persona’s lack of acceptance and lioness from the physical environment highlighting the idea through the depiction of an individual who is disengaged and struggles to develop a sense of connection and find his place where he belongs to.…

People may see belonging as a good thing. However it can come with a cost. Belonging can be seen as a sense of security, achievement or for a purpose. A sense of belonging can emerge from the connections made with people, places, groups and communities. There are different concepts of belonging and they can be described through the use of various language and visual techniques. 'In the hierarchy of human needs, belonging is considered the most important individual need' this can be further explored through Peter Skrzynecki’s poems ‘St Patrick’s College’ and ‘Felix Skrzynecki ‘and in the graphic novel ‘The Arrival’. Both composers use various ways of interpreting belonging and not belonging. Through the use of techniques, we can gain a greater understanding of belonging and its costs.…

The EZLN is a movement that began in an effort to protect the rights of the indigenous people of Chiapas. This grew into a fight against globalization. The EZLN could not have stated it better, they are fighting for “a world in which many worlds fit”. The EZLN are fighting for the forgotten, the underrepresented and exploited. They do not limit their struggle to the indigenous people of Chiapas. They are not blinded to the struggles that people from other states and places are facing. The EZLN does not claim to have an answer. They are willing to acknowledge that nothing is certain. The only thing that is certain is that the current government is not serving the needs of the people. The EZLN is not individualistic. They fight against exploitation on every level and on behalf of everyone. The Fire and the Word by Gloria Munoz Ramirez retells the EZLN struggle from the day the first founders retreated into the jungle to twenty years after.…
