Facing the Giants
Facing the Giants essay by Hanna ;) Facing the Giants is a great inspirational movie. It teaches us to have faith in God because when we believe in Him whole-hearted; there will be no boundaries in our success. When I first heard of the title, lots of things popped into my mind. I came to think of struggles, facing fears and any other problems in life. As I watched the film, it occurred to me that it was about an underdog football team that never bloomed in the hand of their coach, Grant Taylor. I’m not an avid fan of any types of sport but I just loved this movie. Regardless of the fact that the football team has great potential and their coach also tried his best in manipulating the team. They failed because of their lack in confidence and belief in one another. At home, Coach Taylor also had some difficulties with his wife because he was impotent and the couple wanted to have their own baby badly. In spite of all the problems going on in his life Coach Taylor grasp onto the Bible and sought God for help. That was how he found his inner strength and helped revived his team teaching them about faith in God. I found that part very heartwarming and moving. The scene that inspired me the most was Brock doing the death crawl. I swore I would have jumped up and down if I was watching the movie at home. That part took my breath away, I was mixed with emotions, words couldn’t explain how I felt. Brock was the most influential player in their team and Coach Taylor has a strong belief in him. Usually the death crawl would just be 10m long but Brock mange to reach the end zone of the field carrying a guy who weighs a hundred and sixty pounds. It showed that nothing is impossible without the presence of God. Coach Taylor’s continuous encouragement led to an unbelievable victory of the team. At the end of the death crawl Brock left his whole team jaw-dropped. And that was the start where Coach Taylor changed the whole philosophy of the team. Meanwhile, David

It is loosely based on a true story of a small high school basketball team. The story is located in a small farming community in Indiana where a new coach that has an unknown past and other than a traditional coaching style steps into a vacated role. The new ideas and ideals presented are met with reluctance and resistance from the players and local population who are engrained deeply with traditional thinking. Over time, and not without great resistance, the new coach inspires the team and the locals to embrace new ideals and structure. Along the way, the coach also inspires a former local basketball superstar to rejoin the team and in turn saves the coach from removal from his job as head coach. The Giants have been around since 1925, and have become a well-known organization and one that other teams look to emulate. The Giants play their home games at MetLife Stadium which was just built in 2010. The Giants are a part of my life, everyday conversation, looking up breaking news, who they are interested in taking in this year’s draft. It’s something I can share with my Dad, a fellow Giants fan, and many of my close friends. This team keeps us talking for hours as if we were on the field or in the locker room with them. There’s nothing better than waiting around all week to watch this team play on Sunday’s.…

After watching and reflecting on this movie I learned many lessons from Simon Birch as a person and a believer in God. I always thought I had it tough but, after watching the movie I realized that there are many people in the world like Simon Birch who have to face problems that they have to live with for the rest of their lives. This has taught me to never lose faith and look at the bright side. For example, if I am struggling academically I should never lose my faith, my determination and the drive to keep going. The biggest theme in the film is overcoming adversity. Its something that exists and is real in the shape of defeating your opponents. Overcoming adversity is affirmed throughout the film. Remember the Titans is another great example of overcoming adversity. The movie starts out with a black coach, replacing a white coach in rural Virginia, which was white dominated at the time. When this happened many bricks were thrown through Coach Boones’s, the black coach, house. Riots and rallies were held at the school saying to keep the blacks out.At the beginning of the movie the white players were least bit excited to join black players to play football, but as time went on, they bonded together and eventually won the state championship. Gerry, white, and Julius, black, ended up to be great friends throughout the years even though at the beginning of their friendship they were bitter rivals. A movie watcher could see the hatred in their eyes as they passed each other on the field and in the school hallway. A scene in the movie…

I thought the movie was moving, empowering and touching. One part that was really emotional for me was when the one lady was telling a story about a woman who witnessed her husband being killed and her daughter being rapped. Anyone who can go through that much pain, disaster and hardship is a strong individual. If I were in their place I don’t know how I would be able to go through all of that day in and day out and there never be a hope of it getting better. Those women though they stuck it out and prayed so much that things got better and that just shows how amazing all of them are. This movie is one…
