An orcas habitat is different than any other dolphin’s habitat. Orcas prefer to be in cold water regions. You can find them in tropical, subtropical or even offshore waters (Killer Whale, Orcinus orca). Orcas can also be found in polar regions (Killer Whale Orca). Most orcas don’t usually stay in the same place. Once they move, they can adapt to any climate. (Orcas: Facts About Killer Whales).
Orcas don’t just have different habitats,
they also have different behaviors. Orcas are very highly social (Killer Whale Orcinus orca). Orca groups are called pods. Orcas can socialize in pods of up to forty orcas or maybe even more. (Orcas: Facts About Killer Whales). As far as communication goes, orcas rely on underwater communication Killer Whale, Orcinus orca). Orcas also use echolocation to communicate or to hunt (Killer Whale Orca).
Breeding for orcas is often a very long process. An orca pregnancy can last up to seventeen months or maybe more (Killer Whale Orca). Female orcas will give birth every three to ten years (Orcas: Facts About Killer Whales). Birth rate isn’t really well known by many (Killer Whale, Orcinus orca).
