There are many ways Guy Montag and Truman Burbank are similar. One of the ways was how they were both curious. Guy Montag, in Fahrenheit 451, was curious because he stole books from a woman’s house. He tool the books to read and try to understand what was in them. …show more content…
Montag also called Faber for Faber to help him understand books. Truman, from The Truman Show, is also curious. He is curious because, in the show he starts to wonder what is real and what’s not. He begins to look more closely at things. Truman realizes that nothing around him is real. He also begins adventuring to find out more information. This similar characteristic both made them wild and act differently around people. Both of the characters are emotionally, or physically harmed by their actions. There are multiple reasons why they are similar and being curious is just one of them.
Secondly these characters are similarly how they both realized that there was a flaw in their society.
This may have been partially from their curiosity. In Fahrenheit 451, Guy Montag recognized a flaw by realizing that no one had emotion. He realized that they didn’t have emotion. This relates to him being curious because after that he thought the answers were in the books, which made him steal them. This made him see that his wife did not love him. Also, he was shown, while talking to Mildred’s friends, that they could careless about their children. Truman, in The Truman Show, also became aware that there was a defect. Truman became aware that everyday it was the same; he saw repetition. He saw that everything revolved around him and when he tried to leave the workers would make him stop and turn around. Truman found this suspicious and his suspicions lead to him finding out more about his society. This similar characteristic made Truman and Montag act recklessly. Both characters were emotionally harmed but Truman’s scenario ended up to be a positive while Montag’s did not. This made the characters both start to rebel, which brings me to my final
point.
Finally, the last reason as to how they are similar is that both characters rebelled against their society. In Fahrenheit 451, Montag started collecting books. This is when it all started. The rebellion continued when he killed Beatty. Also, when Montag began collecting books to make copies of them. With these copies, he planed to place them in fireman’s houses to get them burned. In The Truman Show, Truman rebelled in a different way.Truman realizes there was something sketchy about his life which made him take action. He rebels by doing nothing and escaping. Once he is “off the grid”, he sails to the edge of a dome television set. He doesn’t stop till he gets there and nothing is going to get in his way. Finally when he gets there, he sees and door and leaves the set. This character trait impacted Truman more positively than it did Montag. Though Montag’s rebellion didn’t have a “happy ending” both characters did revolt which makes them similar.
Both characters have many similarities despite their differences. They both are curious, they realized a flaw, and they both fought to fight the flaws. They both handle their problems similarly. Montag and Truman both act differently each time they change. They are both are physically and mentally harmed by their actions and “unruly” behavior. Although these characters have totally different lives and totally different personalities, these characters have many similarities in there lives. These points show how Montag and Truman are similar.
