The first section being, “The Hearth and the Salamander” also has a significance. When fire was first discovered, it was used for good things, like for warmth, cooking food, etc. for those people, fire was essentially a savior, and it represented comfort and survival. Hence, the hearth also represents how fire was formerly used and seen as good. The hearth, also a traditional symbol of the home, represents Montag’s home life, his relationship with Mildred, the parlor, and Clarisse. When I read Fahrenheit 451, the most prevalent literacy style that jumped out at me was Ray Bradbury's use of symbolism. Symbolism is prevalent throughout the entire novel. Some of it jumps right out at you, but most of it a minute of pondering thought, and even more time of analytical judgment. I absolutely love symbolism. It has to be my absolute favorite literacy style. Symbolism creates a much easier device by which interpret a profound idea or concept. Fahrenheit 451 is chucked to the gills with symbolism.…

Jack Dee once said, “ I have a longing for ritual, something I could cling to, a routine to make me feel well and contented. I hoped that reading Bible commentaries and theological critiques would nudge me closer to some kind of absolute that I could hold up as a torch to light my way.” This quotation means that the yearning for reading a book such as the Bible is a good feeling. Reading the Bible helps one understand and learn more about the past, and have a better perspective in life. Bradbury explores the idea of ignorance and its possible consequences in his novel, "Fahrenheit 451". To emphasize the theme of ignorance versus knowledge, the writer points out how Bradbury fuses this notion with conformity. These two themes operate together to illustrate how society can be manipulated into becoming passive to the point of stupidity. It explains how Bradbury utilizes symbols of mirrors and fire to prompt Montag's character into becoming something other than a mindless drone. With the imagery of his hands, Bradbury illustrates how Montag develops throughout the course of the novel. The writer concludes how, through symbolism and imagery, Bradbury illustrates how Montag's fight against the system proves to be an enlightening…

Imagine a world full ignorant, censored people, a world in which the government outlaws books and controls everything. People cannot and do not even think for themselves. Teenagers, who aren’t even raised by their own parents, murder one another and engage in violent games. Citizens are hypnotized by their parlor families in wall TV’s and radio seashells. Such a lifestyle is depicted in Ray Bradbury’s Fahrenheit 451. In the futuristic novel, there are many symbols criticizing the modern world. Ray Bradbury uses symbols of fire, water, a mechanical hound, and the legend of the phoenix to convey his underlying message about this modernized society.…

Symbols refer to ideas beyond the words, and are used to develop themes by making the reader interpret an idea for him/herself. To Kill A Mockingbird written by harper Lee in 1960 is a prime example of how symbolism can be effectively used to develop a theme. Lee uses many symbols throughout the novel to present thematic ideas to the reader. For example, the symbol of The Mockingbird is used to symbolize moral injustice. This symbol is essential to understanding the message of the book and is even referred to in the title. The mad dog is another important symbol used to represent challenges an individual must face, and the craziness of Maycomb. As a result, Harper Lee uses the symbols of The Mockingbird and The Mad Dog to develop the theme of a society’s moral injustice.…

Not knowing things is sometimes an award, but it can also be a curse. The same idea is applied to the book Fahrenheit 451 by Ray Bradbury where the government often hides the truth from the people. They do this to keep everyone happy since they think if you do not know about something, you do not have to worry about it. Some people can accept this standard of living, but others feel as if they are missing something like the main character Guy Montag felt as he learned more about books. Montag developed throughout the story to overcome the statement Ignorance is Bliss by the help of many characters but mainly Beatty, Clarisse, and Faber.…
