Fahrenheit 451 Reflection Essay

When I finished reading this book, I realized that it was nothing like I assumed it would be. To summarize it into one word, I would say it was fascinating. Now many might wonder, why would I use the word fascinating? When you think about the society that Montag lives in, obviously it seems a little extreme to us but is it really so farfetched? The author came up with the idea of this book because there was once a time that book burning was happening more frequently in America. The title of the book, Fahrenheit 451, refers to the temperature at which books ignite, which I did not realize before reading the book. “Burning books—and in the past, their authors as well—that espouse hated ideas is perhaps the oldest form of censorship” (2).
The author used this book as a way to convey the message of the McCarthy Era and the threat of book burning to his fellow Americans.

After a while, you realize that the life you are living is not the way it should be and you rebel. But, Montag’s situation is a little different. He has nothing to fight for. He realizes that he has no feelings for his wife after she tried to commit suicide with prescription pills. After that happens, his life turns upside down because a series of tragedies begin to happen to him. He is forced to watch a woman who hid books in her home burn alive with her books and he finds out from his wife (who doesn’t seem to care) that Clarisse is killed in a car accident. His society became controlled from power, more specifically, a type of censorship. Bradbury has expressed his view of society through this
