First, assignment. An assignment is similar as a job, but not quite identical . In our society we can choose our own job. They changed the name to assignment because one is assigned an assignment, their “jobs” are not chosen. In their society the Ceremony of Twelve is an enormous deal, they are all very anxious to be placed in an assignment, but they usually have no idea where they will be put. However, in our society we have the privilege to choose our job. We are usually nervous on the first day just because it is unfamiliar, but we are prepared for the task at hand. Stirrings is another word for puberty. In their Utopian society they can control stirrings by mandatory pills that must be taken every morning. This makes the people feel like they are growing up when they begin to take the pill, they feel like they have accomplished something. Though as they grow older it becomes a natural habit to take their pill everyday. In our society when we hit puberty there is nothing we can do about it, we must live with it for the rest of our lives. We cannot take a pill to control our bodies. They changed the name because stirrings can be controlled, puberty cannot, They are not the same things at all.
In conclusion, our society is very different from this Utopian society. They have many mandatory events and habits as we do not. We can choose what we want to do, when we want to do it, and how we feel. Our attitudes and dispositions would be unquestionably different in each society.
