The politics of the post WWll were still under the new deal of FDR and this made it were electing someone new harder because some of the people wanted it but others didn't. The republicans were more for taking the new deal away, were as the conservative party were more for the deal. This lead to the agreement and the disagreement of the political votes for the new president. And in all of this mess with the US government, the communist Russia's leader had died "stalin" and his successor was more reasonable about communism's spread.
