Faith In Beowulf
Beowulf is known as the oldest surviving masterpiece written from Old English the Anglo-Saxon period . (449 – 1066) Back in these times poems were told orally known as oral storytelling because most people could not read. They were passed on by “shopes”
The author is unknown and yet within this very long poem we are introduced to:

Beowulf a hero who is intelligent, brave, and strong where good verses evil.

Beowulf a man of faith and where he gets his strength and guidance from. “the Great placed complete trust/ in his strength of limb in the Lords favor. (H.669-670)

Beowulf is an Epic Hero for he travels from Geatland to the Danes.
Beowulf goes to Hrothgar's aid. For the reasoning Hrothgar had saved Beowulf's father a few years

Hrothgar wants his people to live in peace.

Beowulf has heard stories from other sailors of Herot and how Grendel (a monster) attacks during the night as the men sleep he grabs them and and eats them for food. Grendel is powerful he is a descended from Cain.
“Then out of the night /came the shadows-stalker, stealthy and swift;/ the hall-guards were slack, asleep at their posts.”(H. 703-705)

Beowulf the prince of Geats is a strong young warrior courageous and is willing to sail and defeat Grendel who is evil. “his glee was demonic picturing the mayhem (H. 730-731)
Beowulf is a wise leader he stands by what he says and puts the people first by putting his own life on the line. Grendel was driven under the fen-banks, fatally hurt, to his desolate lair. (H. 818-820)

The narrator wants to show us that Beowulf is not afraid to fight Grendel “When it comes to fighting, I count myself /as dangerous any day as Grendel” (H.677-678). Beowulf went into the fight with the strength that God has given him.

It was very belligerent fight one would say good verses evil.
The narrator does give Christian views. “And may the Divine Lord/ in His wisdom grant glory of victory/ to whichever side He sees

Grendel tries to attack Beowulf but Beowulf grabs his arm and wont let go Grendel cannot believe the strength he has. In their struggle, Beowulf in the process tears off Grendel's arm it was a bloody violent scene. Grendel “He was desperate to flee to his den and hide/ in the devil’s litter.” (H.754-755). As the story unfolds they were struggling benches were destroyed walls were shaking and then “Everyone felt it/ who heard that cry as it echoed off the wall,/ a God-curse scream. (H.782-784)

Beowulf was granted/ the glory of winning”(H. 817-818)
Now that Grendel a descendant of Cain “the captain of evil” (H.749) was defeated. Who caused havoc and misery to the Danes for many years. Beowulf comes to the King of Danes out of friendship restores hope and honor now that Grendel is defeated.
Beowulf a true heroic prince who is intelligent , strong and so courageous saved the Danes of a horrific evil who put himself at risk of losing his life. Beowulf is truly good a true Epic

    Beowulf is a very courageous character and recounts his acts of courage to every person who will listen. In the poem Beowulf tells of his previous courageous actions in destroying a tribe of giants, defeating sea monsters in the night and returning from battle covered in his enemies blood.     Part A- Beowulf like all epic hero’s is strong loyal and brave. These characteristic are what define Beowulf, and instill fear is his enemies. He boasts about “(driving) / five great giants into chains” (248-249) and “In the blackness of night, hunting monsters” (251).
