Fall Of Rome Dbq
Fall of Rome Essay In 476 C.E. Rome’s leader was overthrown, causing the Roman Empire to fall. There are many speculations on what caused the most powerful and greatest Empire of its time to fall. Some suggest that the fall of Rome and the state of America now, are very similar in social, political, and economic aspects. The fall of Rome is similar to America because of political instability and inflation. A colossal factor that contributed to the fall of Rome is political instability and political corruption. Holding a political office in ancient Rome was said to pay very well. Politicians were not only running for government positions for power reasons, but also for money purposes. This skewed the validity of government leaders, often leading to officials focusing on themselves and their wealth and title, instead of what is best for the people of Rome. The validity of government leaders can be related back to present day America. Government officials now are not always qualified for their job. Instead, one might say they are running for their own gain, or to achieve a certain title, not really caring about the good of America.
Rome is also politically similar to America due to the enormous cost of political elections. In Rome, only the wealthiest people were able

One prominent difference would be the freedom that Americans posses. In America, one has the freedom to vote, speak, and have religious choice. This was not the case in Rome. An example of lack of freedom in ancient Rome would be slavery. At that time, slaves were very popular and hardly had any rights. Slaves would not only have manual labor jobs, but also more skilled jobs, sometimes even a physician. Also, in Rome, men and women were not equal. Roman men had full citizenship and were not limited to anything, but on the other hand, Roman women had a very limited citizenship. Roman women could not vote or hold a public

The Roman Empire, one of the biggest empires of the ancient world, was a strong and growing empire. However, it fell after many years of glory. Why did it fall? Was it because of attacks, failing economy, many unemployed? These all lead to one point, expansion. Or was it struggles over power? Even though the Roman Empire got more land, resources, and labor from expanding, the expansion led to the thinning out of resources and power, as well as a failing economy due to unemployed plebeians; lastly Rome’s defenses were weakened.…

Last and the most likely reason Rome fell was because of the foreign invasions. From Doc. C you can see that Rome was enemies with many other soldiers like the Huns, Vandals, Etc. Most invaders came from the East and because of the weak military and leaders not doing any good either, it must’ve been easier since they weren’t in the best conditions. Because of all the enemies they had, they didn’t last very long. Especially the Huns were a big threat. According to a Roman historian Ammianus Marcellinus, “ The Huns exceeded every definition of savagery. Like Unthinking animals, they are completely ignorant of what’s right and wrong.” Compared to the Huns, The Romans didn’t have a chance.…

There were many reasons for the decline and fall of the Roman Empire. Each document in this essay explains a different reason. Some causes were: political, economic, social, and military differences and problems. Basically, the problem was that the gap between the rich aristocrats and the poor serfs got bigger and bigger; the rich got richer as the poor got poorer. Also, when something grows, it always falls back down. In Document 1, an excerpt from a book was taken out. According to the authors, the basic problems facing the Western Roman Empire came from the people that gave up devotion to the old civilization and didn't believe that it was worth saving. Why should they care about their land if they weren't allowed to take part in government say, they couldn't form groups to protect themselves, and were even excluded from their own army? The practically jobless people realized that their cities were slowly falling, but no one bothered to stop their decline; it was something that had to happen. The loss of popular support to the oppressive government, increased government corruption, division of the empire, and internal power struggles were some political causes that led to the fall of Rome. In Document 2, two causes for the fall of Rome were: the large size, and the introduction to Christianity. Because the Empire grew too large, it became uneasy to control. It was inevitable for the fall to occur, no matter how much anyone tried. Jesus' introduction to Christianity also started a change. The clergy (priests) helped change the moral values of society. It no longer mattered much, and military power was buried or thrown away. The rich's wealth was taken away and given to charity (poor). In Document 3, the Muller's explanation for the decline was an economic issue. As the Empire grew stronger, so did economy. When the Empire started to decline, business ceased and there was little progress, so that also crashed along with the empire itself. Slavery caused another…

As the age of the Greeks was coming to an end, a small kingdom in central Italy was gaining power and growing. During this time, Rome was not yet the Rome as we know it today. In 753 BCE the Kingdom of Rome was founded on a hill top right next to the Tiber River. This kingdom lasted for around 200 years until in 509 BCE when the people of Rome overthrew the king and created a republic. Like the Athenians, the Romans also showed pride in their participation in government. However unlike the Athenians the Romans set up a republic in which the people of Rome voted for representatives and those reps then discussed, voted and participated in the government. This in turn meant that political participation in Rome was less direct than it had been in their Greek counterparts but, this in no way stopped the Romans from participation in politics. The Romans believed in one very important virtue. This virtue was called gravitas and it represented the Roman’s seriousness and importance it put toward aspects of life, one of which was politics. The Romans felt that being involved in government was a civil duty that all Romans must know about it. The people of Rome felt this way because they did not want to revert back to the time when they were ruled by kings. Unfortunately the era of the republic began to fall as a cycle of violence ensued. Rome was in constant chaos at this time and as shown throughout…
