Fallacies In Shuman's Essay Before Dying By Shulman
Throughout the story, while teaching new fallacies, Shulman had been using fallacies. He had given the character Polly Espy a stereotypical character of being beautiful but not very smart girl. While he was mocking his roommate, Petey, for being a faddist, he was being a faddist by having the idea that he needed to have a beautiful to wife to be a successful lawyer because the other successful lawyers he had saw they had beautiful wives, giving another example of hasty generalization. However, the main fallacy was love. Shulman’s idea of love was something perfect or somewhat like a duty. He had, by the end, created love for this girl Polly instead of fallen in love, meaning he did not love Polly but her appearance and characteristics. His
